Everyone should be treated with respect. Don't let anyone make you feel bad about who you are. You are a person that deserves to be love just like anyone else. Sometimes we are brought up in a way that our values are not what they should be. But as you grow and learn you will come to realize that you are somebody. Somebody that deserves to be loved. Don't put up with anything that takes away from you being the person you are. Don't settle for just anybody. Find someone that will love and care for you. Women with low Self esteem will put up with much more. But this is not a reason to except any man because you don't feel the best of yourself. Seek counseling for the low self esteem and it will help to build the woman that is inside of you. Women with low self esteem have to learn to love themselves. You must love yourself in order to return love. If you don't love yourself you will attract men that don't care about you. They can clearly see you don't care about yourself. And they will treat you any kind of way. So learn to love the loving person inside of you and watch the difference you will make in your life.

Frist of all, i dont think that you should put up with any type of abuse, regardless of if you come from a abusive home or not. No one deserves to be treated like that. Secondly, people wont does the abusing thend to not have enough self esteem themselves, that is why they pick on others. As far as when enough is enough, always remember that only you can decide. I grew up with a abusive father, my mother finally worked up the courage to leave him. I learn from her that you can never depend too much on a guy, sometimes they will love you but there is always the chance that they will think you are nothing without them and mess around behind your back. whatever you do, good luck.

I think women with low self esteem tend to put up with loser men and abusive relationships. Their self esteem is so low that they settle for the man they do have, rather than leave them and hope to find a good, respectful man in the future. Unfortunately too many of us women put up with men that are no good. But you have to realize that you are worth so much more and you deserve to live a good life with a good man.

For sure women with low self esteem put up with more abuse from men. They boost you up in the beginning and are extremely charming, but later on when they know you are deeply in love with you they make your life hell. They tell you your good for nothing and slowly rip away at your every move. They convince you that you cannot live without them and make your life miserable and you have been so conditioned to them you believe them. Take a few courses in self esteem and self confidence and you will make better choices in relationships. Value yourself. If you haven't had it done in your childhood it will take a long time to get back. Good luck.

I have a friend that this made me think of. She was a very pretty girl, but over weight. She had a hard time keeping a guy. She usually would sleep with them the first date. They all thought of her as easy, but really all she wanted was a relationship. Well, she wanted to get married so bad that she married the first one to ask. He has turned into the biggest jerk. He pretty much keeps her prisoner in her own home. He bought this gorgeous house for her, but it is not filled with love. He keeps her from her friends and family. I have not seen her in over 12 years. She was my best friend in the whole world. He moved her way across the states from the rest f us and never lets her visit home. I get little e-mails from her every so often, but nothing personal. So yes is my answer to your question Women with low self esteem will take alot of abuse from a man , whether it is mental or physical.

You should only be with a man who respects you and treats you properly. No verbal, physical, mental, financial kind of abuse. Anything that makes you feel uncomfortable or unwanted shouldnt be put up with. Its ok to spend time finding the right man. dont rush into a relationship for the wrong reasons like lonliness, boredom, or just cos your friends have boyfriends. Most people make a few mistakes before they figure out exactly what they want. If you feel bad about yourself, its easy to believe you dont deserve the best. But you do.

You'd think it would be that simple, especially if you watch Dr Phil and TV movies, but it isn't.
I have known quite a few women who appeared to have plenty of self-esteem, and had a lot going for them, who ended up in abusive relationships. I have also known some women who really seemed to have very little self-confidence or self esteem but who wouldn't put up with that sort of thing.
I think it has far more top do with how they view relationships, and how desperate they are to be loved.

I think self esteem comes and goes with the relationships.
My parents were/are encouraging to all of us kids. We knew who we were and what we could do with our God given talents. My first husband had little, to no, self esteem. His mother spoiled him from day one and did most of his decision making for him, once we were married he thought I should do the same...NOT! I bucked at every turn, I could not comprehend why anyone would want me to tell them what and when to eat, sleep or even wear that day. In turn, he could not understand why I refused to tell him answers to his seemingly innocent questions. My second husband, 13 years my senior, made me feel like if it weren't for his guidance and superior intellect I would be NOTHING! I was never involved in the household finances, nor asked my preferences on what I liked or disliked, my taste for fashion left a bitter mark on him and even when we went for marriage counseling the councilor told him to shut up. If I was permitted to talk in public I had to tell him everything that was said or I had to say it loud enough for him to hear. My fiancee went through the same type of marriage that I had the second time around and both of us are more thoughtful of the others feelings and desires. We communicate WITH each other rather than AT each other. Having to go back and FIND your self esteem is a long process and once taken from you it is harder for another to take again, also I think you are more aware of not doing so to others.

Yes, I think women with low self esteem put up with more abuse than women with high self-esteem.
And it is VERY BAD.
First, because of the abusive situation being bad in itself.
Second, because if you get used to putting up with abuse, then that will have the effect of making your self-esteem even lower and lower (because you get used to being trated badly and you might get to believe that you deserve it).
So, don't. For goodness sake, don't put up with abuse. It's not right. Whoever is abusive does not deserve you - whether you have low self-esteem or not.

You are correct. People with low self esteem are much more likely to tolerate (or even believe they deserve) poor treatment from others, than someone who has good, healthy self esteem.
It's sad...they low self esteem people even convince themselves they love the other person, in spite of poor treatment...the other person probably also tells them no one else would put up with them and they are lucky to have anyone...so to keep from being alone (horror!) they stay in a bad situation.
I think it's quite easy to be with someone who respects us and likes us, without feeling we are being "perfectionists". There is a huge difference in not tolerating unkind behavior, and expecting someone else to be perfect.
