This is rediculous! They are saying that we are 'Legally' able to be sexually active (which surprises me that we can have sex before we are a legal adult?? Crazy!) at 16, but not drink until 21?? I would be very surprised. I am well past the age of this affecting me too. I also think you are safe for those 3 years. Look how long it took for the smoking laws to come into place?
Another crazy Howard scheme! Dumbass.

In any issue - the people who will be most affected are the ones what will be the most vocal and upset. In this case, it is the ones who is just about to turn 18 who would not like to see it happen.
To be fair - as already mentioned above, if 18 is the legal age to vote, then it would be unfair to raise the drinking age to 21.
(But - just to throw into the debate while we are at it. I am in favor of raising the driving age to 18 -considering we can not vote and we can not drink until we are 18 yet we allow young people to get into a machine capable of killing or inflicting horrible injuries.)

Ultimately it is up to the families to look after thier teenagers. The argument that they won't change it cause you are an adult at 18 is a load of crap.. some of the ages of autonomy are as follows...
15 can have own medical record, stop school
16 can have sex, get a learners, and move out of home
17 can have P's
18 can vote and drink.
I think that 18 is fine cause it's old enough to have some sense of resposibility- but your not waiting so long that you really feel that you need to go overboard. I didn't even get drunk on my 18th!

In all honesty, drinking is not at all what it is cracked up to be. I'm 20 and i couldnt care less when the drinking age was, because i've seen what alcohol has done to my friends, and people around me, and its not a pleasant thing to see. In high school, it wasnt uncommon for people in my year to go and get absolutely plastered every weekend, and its really difficult not to say that this was damaging them, because its obvious that it was. It IS reckless and it IS doing terrible damage to young bodies ESPECIALLY when you drink in excess.
With the driving laws being changed this coming July, its apparent that the govt is going to change things for young adults and with all the crap that goes on, its clear that it needs it.
All i'm saying is, why put so much emphasis on something that makes you sloppy, makes you forget where you are sometimes, and can often lead to situations that you wouldnt normally put yourself in?
Honestly, drinking alcohol is not the best thing you can do for yourself

I'm Australian and 18 and I don't really care if they change it, I dont drink much anyway, although they should have tougher rules on younger people that drink like doing community service in old folks home or put them in jail for a month or two and america has stupid laws, you have to be 21 to drink but you can be 18 and go be a skank at a club so who really wants to listen to there laws

It won't happen. In Australia you are legally an adult at the age of 18. To change the drinking age, they would have to change the adult age, which could affect voting and driving ages. Not practical at all.
The government has more important things on their minds, like how to screw more money out of tax payers. The latest is taxing rain water collected from roof tops into tanks. Hello?

I am well past this being a problem for me, but I think the Government should get it's nose out of our business.
Putting the age up will just create more problems than it solves. Whilst Alcohol (like all drugs) can be nasty, most folks sort it out for themselves fairly quickly.
Banning it would only incease the glamour and rebel factor whilst achieving non of the supposed health benefits.
Crazy and pointless idea.

I think 21 years old is the right age for drinking, you will benefit from it in the long run. By then at least you can drive. The problem is children there can drink before they can drive, so whats that tell you.
Sorry I am on the 21years old drinking law bec I have 3 children in Australia who drank alcohol that young,

The call of the corporate is "planned" Parenthood not ""whats up, enable's be irresponsible and get pregnant so i will get an abortion at planned Parenthood". planned Parenthood is a corporation that delivers training at little or no value approximately delivery administration and sexually transmitted ailments. they are the only company right this moment that delivers secure abortions for women who opt for the technique. many human beings concentration on the certainty they carry out abortions and little interest is given to the certainty inexpensive delivery administration tactics are offered there. planned Parenthood does plenty better than carry out abortions. I help planned Parenthood one hundred%. i'm discover it an rather stressful to have faith that an worker of planned Parenthood reported their purpose exchange into to have each 13 to 18 year previous woman have 3 to 5 abortion considering planned Parenthood strives to ward off the will for abortion by offering training approximately delivery administration tactics. babies enormously won't be getting the educational they choose approximately delivery administration simply by fact some adults think of abstinence is the only appropriate option. considering babies tend to work together in sexually interest, I choose that they do so with all of the educational conceivable concerning delivery administration and sexually transmitted ailment. Margaret Sanger exchange into jailed for giving women condoms. could women right this moment prefer to return to those circumstances? I doubt it. at a similar time as I get exhilaration from the main appropriate of people who disagree with abortion to assert so, i hit upon the harassment of sufferers at planned Parenthood by professional-lifers intense and hateful - not the strikes of a guy or woman who values existence - all lives - not purely the lives of the human beings who trust their place.

Pretty hypocritical isn't it considering you can enlist at 18yrs,this the reason we have these laws because they figure if you are old enough to fight for your country then you should be old enough to drink seems reasonable to me but then I dont make the laws.
