Well you need to take the size of the animal in relation to the amount of chocolate he/she ingested. Smaller the animal the more potential danger there is. . .if he/she is on the larger size 4 chocolate chip cookies are not a big deal. . . .
However if you ever CATCH the dog in the at of eating chocolate candies, chocolate bars or cocoa or choc cake -- things of that nature (dark choc is the most potent) you can shove peroxide down his throat and it will induce vomiting. . . then he will probably be ok -- But the important thing is you must CATCH him in the act -then make a follow up appt at the vet- if you do not know when he ate the chocolate - take him right to the vet. . . .
don't mess around. Email me with any questions. . ..

If he weighs more than 40 lbs, I wouldn't be overly concerned, but if he weights less, I would be careful. Chocolate chips usually have bakers chocolate in it. That means that a dog can only eat one oz of bakers chocolate for every 9 lbs of body weight without it being fatal.

Besides that it will just have the runs and possibly vomit a few times.

Can Dogs Eat Chocolate ?

It is a very bad idea to feed your dogs chocolate because it contains a chemical called theobromine. Dogs can't metabolize theobromine as efficiently as humans so it builds up in their systems until it reaches a toxic level of concentration, which may lead to a variety of problem with the most serious being death due to cardiac arrest.Keep in mind that the less the dog weights, the more you should be worried because the toxicity level is higher.

When I think of chocolate, I think of Hershey so I went to their website to find out just how many mg of theobromine is in one ounce of chocolate.

HERSHEY'S KISSES (milk chocolate) 58mgs per oz
HERSHEY'S (milk chocolate) bar 55 mgs per oz
SPECIAL DARK (sweet chocolate) bar 134 mgs per oz
HERSHEY'S cocoa 737 mgs per oz

As you can see, the number varies greatly depending on the type of chocolate. Milk chocolate has the lowest amount of theobromine per oz compared to dark chocolate. Raw coca being the highest with twelve (12x) times more theobromine then milk chocolate. I would definitely encourage you to call a vet if your dog ingests a sizeable amount of cocoa.

You can view the whole chart at Hersheys. Theobromine Chart

It depends on the size of your dog. If he is larger, probably not because chocolate chip cookies don't have very much chocolate in them compared to, say a chocolate bar.

Yes, I know that choclate is not good for dogs, but mine has ate just about everything, and they are fine! Mine will smell something on the kitchen sink, and have already stood up on his hind legs, and has taken what ever he wants and them gets down! He is so big nothing is safe unless its in the refrigerator or cupboard. I wouldnt stress out and worry, he should be fine! One time I made a roast, and I had it all sliced, and went to pick up my kids at the bus stop. 10 Minutes later when I returned, he had ate the whole roast, and left ONE piece on the plate for me! I never forgot that one!

how big is he and how much chocolate. You could also induce vomitting with hydrogen peroxide.

He is probably perfectly fine. He might throw up but he probably won't even do that. Its only when dogs eat a lot of chocolate that they get severly sick.

He'll be fine. It's the pound of pure chocolate that usually makes them sick.
