Yea, some American school-systems need to stop being lazy and teach more languages!
In my middle school, they don't teach any languages!!!! Yet, this girl in New Jersey has been learning Spanish for a year. (We're in the same grade; 8th.)
Anyway, I didn't learn a second language in elementary either . . .
In high school, I am running after Spanish! (They better teach it there!)

No it should not be required. English is our language. However our high schools offer a variety of languages for free and and you can also learn different languages in college and private schools. If you want to learn another language it should not be a problem.

The US does teach more than one language. My school started teaching spanish at grade three. at grade eight, you got a choice of continuing spanish or taking french. By ninth grade, you could take latin, spanish, or french. In other schools, I've heard they also teach german and japanese.

well we do teach more than one language but not all studentstake advantage of the opportunity. I think schools should be teaching foreign langauges, French Spanish, Italian
as soon as students are confident with reading.

We should. I speak a dialect of Dutch, which isn't very useful to me here. My mom and dad and sister spoke it at home only. My relatives speak 2 to 4 languages.( That aside, everything here should be conducted in english.)

there are only so many hours that children are in school, other than teaching grammar, spelling, and English as a second language so that children can function in the neighborhood they reside in, other classes like math, science, history would have to be replaced

Yes. This way, Americans would have a better understanding when they travel or foreigners come to America

Yes. Everyone in this country is so uncultured. I've been taking French for two years, and if I would've started as child, I'd be fluent in it by now.
