If you look at the side of a package it says that the funes can kill Birds. And if it will kill small animals, what is it doing to me?
So um, I'm not too comfortable with them. I was kind of trying to find a good alternative.

Yes, it has been determined that Teflon coating is poisonous and can cause cancer. The hotter the temperature setting required for cooking, the higher you are at risk. High temperatures cause the Teflon to release poison, although it is not considered to be bad by the people that sell the stuff, but I would buy stainless steel pans and coat them with oil. It does not work as good as Teflon, but it is better to play safe, especially if you are cooking for young ones.....KECK

Safe at 'normal' temperatures.
At home Teflon® can harm you or your pets (especially birds) if they are heated so high, above 500 F. that fumes and smoke are burning off the coating, Teflon.
This will NOT happen at 'normal' cooking temps. I never heat mine over medium on my range.
There is a bigger problem in the manufacturing of the pans for some of the same reasons.

I know two people who have had their pet parrots die from exposure to teflon fumes.
I've never been comfortable with teflon, so have never had a pan made with it. I see lots of them, all scratched and worked up at yard sales and thrift stores and it just doesn't look healthy to me.

I do know that when teflon coatings in cookware are overheated, they emit a poisonous gas that has been known to kill birds. As for cancer or otherwise, I cannot say for sure.

Teflon is unnecessary, plus it makes meat rather unpalatable because you can never brown anything properly with a teflon pan.
Stick to cast iron or steel. Cleanup is tougher but its worth it.
