Happiness, exhilaration, depression and psychosis are states of mind, not diseases. All what you have to do to stop being depress is change your state of mind. How you do that? By changing your ideas and considerations. Scientology provides the tools to achieve a better state of mind in accordance with your own point of view.
Also Psychiatrist excuse the most horrendous crimes as mental illnesses. 10. Scientology is the only church that doesn't ask for donations from their parishioners during their Sunday Services. All chapel services are 100% free (marriages, naming ceremonies, ect). Scientology earns it's money by delivering courses and auditing. Courses and auditing are optional. You do not need to take courses and auditing to be in Scientology. All you need to do to be a Scientologist is to read the books and apply Scientology to your life (like I do). But if you want auditing there are many alternative and economical ways to achieve this.
a. You can do volunteer work in your local church and get your services for free.
b. You can study to be an auditor and perform all your auditing with a fellow student. This way you can also provide free services to your friends and family. This is actually the preferred way to become clear because you learn how to help others. Scientology isn't about you going clear but taking responsibility across all your dynamics (self, family, group, humanity, life, ect).

11. Scientology and aliens. The story of Xenu is just a fable like the story of "Jonah in the Whale" in the bible. Fables are not intended to be taken seriously. The story of Xenu doesn't have any significance on Scientology beliefs.

There is no "alien cleaning" involved in Scientology , but since it is pointless to get into a "denial" argument , I will just answer your actual question.
Yes, we have a large international network of Volunteer Ministers who go to any country or area 3rd World or otherwise that is in need of help.
We also have an expanding mission network that has established new missions in more than 150 countries so far.

Scientology is a new religion, only 53 years old. It does not have hundreds of years of accumulated wealth and property like other religions. It must operate and establish itself in the world according to the economics of today's society.
It selected the donation system it has as it's primary method of funding itself because it is the most equitable (fair) method.
Those who want the training and individual spiritual councelling should be the ones who contribute most to maintain the facilities that provide it.
Actually it is the individual spiritual councelling that is the more expensive to provide since it involves many highly trained professional staff, some of whom are trained at church expense for sometimes as long as 2 or 3 years, to be able to properly deliver it.
Doing the less expensive training courses includes spiritual councelling at no additional cost to the individual and is encouraged as the best route. But it is really up to the individual in terms of time and circumstances.

The Church provides very inexpensive Seminars and Basic Courses as well as free services, to train individuals in these skills, and other self improvement knowledge, which are simple to learn. This is something you can then also help another with and receive similar help in return.

Funds donated to the International Association of Scientologists
are channelled into the many non religious , secular social betterment programs that Scientology supports like:
