I'm 27 years old and have just got mumps for the first time and I look like a hamster. How long does it take for the swelling to go down and for complete recovery to take place?

stay off until all of the swelling has gone. this should be around 1- 1.5 weeks. drink plenty of water as this will help to keep you hydrated whilst your body is recovering. it will also help to redude any fever you may have.

At least a week. Possibly two. Be careful, some adults get really sick from them. We had a teacher who had to be hospitalized because she had problems with her kidneys due to a mumps infection.

It normally takes between 7-14 days to recover fully, but you can go back to work as soon as you feel or look better.
