i am 21 and still have a baby tooth. its the fang looking one, found either side of the front four. there seems to be a tooth above it in my gum, but it hasnt pushed this one out. is this likely to cause any problems? i havent been to the dentist in a few years, but could this do any damage by it not being removed, orwill it just come out in its own time?

I had a baby tooth actually extracted at 18 years old. It did shift my teeth a little because it was in the way of the new tooth. It was very much alive and they put me to sleep to take it out. Same eye tooth as yours. Sounds like yours is as healthy as mine, might want to see the dentist.

Some people never loose the baby tooth, or never have a permanent one under it. If you have had x rays and it shows up that there is a tooth above it then you have a problem which is pretty common. It's call having an impacted k-9, or impacted cuspid, either being # 6 or #11. Usually it's found at a much younger age, during growth years. Even then it requires surgery and orthodontics to guide the tooth in. Sometimes there isn't even a space and one has to be created with ortho. Some are very difficult or stubborn to bring down. At your age the tooth is probably fused or locked into the bone. As long as it's not laying against the root of another tooth, I don't think you have to really be concerned. Just let your dentist keep an eye on it. You can still discuss your options with an orthodontist or your regular dentist. Unless it's bothering you or you aren't happy with your appearance there probably isn't any reason to bother with it. Some people leave the tooth impacted, remove the baby tooth and have a 3 unit bridge or other bridge placed. Talk to your dentist, he'll have the solution to your problem. Hope I was of some help. Good luck.

Guess I'm not the only shark/human hybrid! LOL
I had the same thing, except I realized it when one of my adult canines actually erupted BEHIND the "baby" tooth. I had to have the "Baby" teeth pulled and a gold chain attached to the adult canines and attached to braces so that the adult teeth could be "pulled" into place gradually. I was told that if I had not done this, the adult teeth could have caused crowding which would jeopardize the other teeth, possibly resulting in them becoming crooked, cracked, etc. I was about 21 yrs old at the time I had the procedure done and it took about a year to complete. Later, I experienced crowding due to my wisdom teeth all coming in, and, indeed there has been some damage and crookedness due to the overcrowding. Moral of the story...Don't overlook your dental health!
