Well at first I had planned on going to College after I got out of the Marines but I ended up staying in and it's been 6 years now. I will most likely do my 20 and get out. I think the biggest reason I went in was my Father. He was in the Marines for 23 years and had a big influence on me going in. I also was looking forward to going overseas. I just did not realize it would be to Iraq twice but I have no regrets!!!

I wanted to get out of Delaware and see the world. I did both. Never moved back to Delaware and only go back to visit family. I've been on 6 continents (including a 13 month tour in Antarctica), 7 oceans/seas, 5 ships, 32 countries (stationed in 3). I'd do it again in a flash! Did 20 years,2 months and 1 day. Took my family to live in 2 countries. I can go to 3 countries and not have to stay in a hotel. (I joined in Sept of '65 and retired in Nov of '85). I still keep in contact with of few of my old shipmates and not one regrets his/her time in the Navy. If you haven't been there, you wouldn't understand.

I had a Uncle who was in the Corps during Nam. He was kind of crazy but he still had alot of Marine in him. He wore a Marine buckle and hat all the time. He carried a Kbar in his car. I looked up to him. I joined the Marines when I was 17. I started talking to the recruiter when I was 15. I love the Corps. Also I think I saw too much GI joe when I was a kid.

i joined for a multitude of reasons among them were: my grand father was in Normandy WWII his unit was one of the first on the beach suffered 60% casuilties. i was just out of HS in 03 and after having seen the news of the past 3 years decided i wanted to join up. ive always been an affid military enthusist so once again it seemed like the choice. once i had gone to MEPs i knew there was only one job i wanted to do infantry (though i couldnt get airborne included in my contract). also to serve my country

my dad was in the Air Force-when he retired,I was 16 and we moved to Spain, where my mother was born and raised and my dad had been stationed
At the time, trying to get employment in Spain for a foriegner was almost impossible
so I joined the Air Force at Rota NAS.
was comfortable being around it and just seemed natural
in my mind, there was never a question as to what i wanted to do

I wanted to do something different and get out of my hometown. Also I want to fly helicopters and didn't have the money for civilian flight schools. Now I am in Germany, which is awseome.
