I have a 3 year old Beagle, and everyonce in awhile his head starts throbbing and pulsating. It's very noticeable, but it's at random times, and there isn't any 'cause' for it that we see. It doesn't happen after he gets in trouble, or when he's sniffing. He'll be sitting there quitely and then it happens. Can anyone give me a reason for this? He's been to the vet for physicals, etc but not specifically for it.

I had a beagle who lived almost 15 years. She was one of the most loving dogs. They love families and are very devoted to their owner. They do need a place to run and or daily walking as they have a great deal of energy. They also have a tendency to pick up a scent and follow the trail, which is why there is the need to keep an eye on them as they will take off. Also they will dig, especially in the earlier days and howl somewhat as puppies which is usually when they are left alone and like other pups will chew anything in sight. If this is the first time you want to own a dog then be prepared that there is a lot of time and work involved. You could find a good pedigree for under $300 but you would have to shop around by going to the original owner who would give you a better deal than a pet store. The puppy would need shots and checkups regularly as do all adopted dogs. I loved my beagle and as a dog lover she gave me years of joy. Make sure you get a good book or check on-line on how to raise a beagle or another dog as they all have similar but different needs.

I would take him to a vet, usually if it was a seizure his whole body would shake and get stiff. Have you had his ears checked. Beagles are highly prone to having ear infections. My beagle gets one about once a year. Another thing if you have a cam corder keep it handy and next time his does this vidio it. Then take it to your vets sometimes its easier to figure out something if they see whats going on. good luck to you and your beagle.

Beagles are one of the breeds predisposed to epilepsy (although I don't think this is epilepsy - if it was, his legs would stiffen and twitch and he'd likely lose consciousness). However, he should be checked by the vet and you need to describe what happens to him in great detail to the vet.
