This is hard for me to say but let me try to explain it as clearly as possible...
At the top of the typing area, there's usually the little ruler like things where you can adjust where the words start and end. Mine all of a sudden disappeared. How do I get it back?

It's your lucky day, this is an easy one.
Click on View...Ruler. That will toggler the ruler on & off. Most likely you accidentally clicked on it when you were looking at something else on the View menu.

Seems like you are missing your margin display. Click on VIEW, and then choose NORMAL. You should have your margins back now. You most likely changed the view to Outline view, which hides the margin bar.
