My little brother has a serious problem with acne on his face. He is always broken out. He also gets acne on his upper chest and upper back area. What is something non-prescription that he can use that works really well?

I've had acne for 10 years now and haven't really anything to clear it up, although some things help. Proactiv works okayish for me, but the thing that has worked best so far is a facial steamer. I got one from Amazon.com (they have them at Target too) for about $30 and I use it a few times a week to open up my pores. So far that's help more than any medicine I've tried (and I've tried tons, even prescription medicines). As for the acne on the body a combination of topical medicine and pills would probably do a pretty good job. They have some over the counter pills for acne in the acne section of stores like Target/Walmart and major drug stores.

Honestly I had the same problem. Try pro active and see if it works. it costs allot and doesn't work for everyone though. I just went to the dermatologist and they put me on a special antibiotic that worked from the inside over 3 months and now even my acne scars are almost invisible. It's awesome. I have a shower gel, face washing cream and a gel to put on in the morning but its the antibiotic that seals the deal. Get your mom to help him by taking him to a Dr.

I have an acne treatment that has won me the best answer over thirty times. Usually, the person who voted it the best answer was amazed at how well it worked, even those who had severe cases of acne. I'll copy and paste it below.

Use a hot compress on it (a washcloth, sponge, or anything that will allow you to apply moist heat to the area), and then use cool water to close the pores. Do the process over and over again, about five or six times. Use soap to wash the area, rinse it with warm water, blot off the excess water with a clean towel, and then treat it with an alcohol soaked cotton ball. It should be gone within five to six hours.

Here are some of the previous comments I cut and pasted from those who voted it as the best answer, (Copied and pasted as written. Capital letters seen are as originally answered)

Get a "Purpose" gentle soap cleansing bar by johnson&johnson. Works your body acne like a charm! Give it a few washes and you really start to see it fade. I don't use it much on my face but I think it should be just as good. It can be a bit drying though!

For serious acne, there is no over the counter cream, that will really help, he needs to see a dermatologist, for perscribtion meds, or he could end up with permanent scars
