What kind of cat food are you feeding? Higher quality cat foods produce less litter box waste because you cat can more easily use the ingredients. Try Innova EVO, Nutro, Wellness, ect. Try to stay away from the foods that you see on commercials or those available at the grocery store as they usually are full of fillers your cat cannot utilize. This leads to obesity and lots of trips to the box! Feeding your cat 1/4 to 1/3 cup of food twice a day is usually appropriate for cat that is no longer growing (so 1/2 to 2/3 cup total per day) Feeding cats inly once a day can lead to other issues, so why risk it.
Also, has your cat been checked for parasites/dewormed? If not see your vet, as this can cause a bloated belly and a lot of trips to the box too.

Five months old is hardly fully grown so make sure you feed her good quality kitten food until she is a year old. The amount listed on the container should work, however if she has a round stomach she may need worming. That could be why she's going to the litter box so often. Also, make sure she has fresh water at all times. She can go a while without eating, but should have water any time she wants it. If you haven't already taken her, a vet visit would be a good idea to make sure she's up to date on her vaccinations. I have four cats and they vary in size from 7 to 18 pounds and the smallest one makes as much pooh as the biggest one. It all depends on the cat.

Average for a kitten 5-6 months old is about 1/2 a cup of dry kitten food a day. This can be broken down into several meals of 1/8 (x4 times). If you fee more than this, you run the risk of an over weight cat.

Most young cats need to be wormed as kittens, so she may be long overdue for that. Take her to a vet ASAP. She should also be spayed now so arrange for that.
If you are feeding her inexpensive dry food from the grocery store she will always continue to let out at one end the inadequate food she takes in from the other.
Twice a day is the best feeding schedule for the cat so that's a great idea.
I know the things I mention mean $$$ and that's necessary to have a healthy, happy cat. Probably the worst thing that could happen to her is to have kittens at seven or eight months of age. Get her spayed now (call 1-800-SpayUSA for a low-cost clinic near you). You can probably get worm medication for her when the spaying is done.

It depends how much you give her. My cat is 10 years old and we feed him about 3 Whiskas Sachets a day and he also has a bowl of go cat complete at the side with a bowl of water. He used to have a tray when he was a kitten and used it about 2 or 3 times a day, but now he is older he goes outside instead so i don't know how many times. If you use canned food a standard sized can should probably last 1 day.

Look on the back or the side of the package or can of cat food. It will tell you how much to feed your cat based on its weight. I know you give her water, but make sure she has access to fresh water all the time. Small animals can become dehydrated very quickly.

Just follow the directions on the back of the kitten food bag. If she seems underweight or your vet says she is, it is ok to let her have a full food bowl available all day and just eat when she is hungry. Kitten's tummys get round when they are full. Like babies, kittens poop a lot too! I would not worry unless she is having diahrea or straining to go (constipated)

I agree with the first answer. I have a cat who is only 1 and weighs almost 30 pounds. I feed him a cup and a half of food, three times a day and he is satisfied. That is also what the vet told me to feed him. IF you are unsure, call your vet and ask him.

I give my cat (she's about 5 years old) some wet cat food in the morning and a bit of cat crackers at night.
