I have this idea that if you don't shower that often (for example: not everyday, but every other day), the your body would adapt to not needing showers so often and it can stay clean, relatively. And your skin and hair can stay healthier than everyone else's because you are not putting chemicals on it all the time. Does this make sense?

As long as you don't have excessively oily hair and skin, and don't have a job or lifestyle that involves alot of sweating or unclean conditions (ie. athletes, many factory workers, construction workers, etc), then it should be fine. It actually is better for your hair not not be washed every single day, but alot of people do it because they just feel "cleaner" that way.

A good way to gradually adjust to it is to start by not taking a shower every 4 days, then 3 days, then 2 days, until you are down to every other day. It still would be a good idea to wash your face gently morning and night, though.

Again, I would only recommend this if your skin and hair are not oily and you do not have a job/lifestyle that causes you to sweat or get dirty alot.

that is true i agree with you and you dont have to take a shower everyday you should take one or two everyother day cause by putting all that chemicals into your hair kills it and its bad for your scelp cause my boyfriend is in the military and he works hard and sweats alot but when he comes back from work he still smells good and taking a shower everyday can damage your skin and you might not know it cause all the soap you use to clean your self if you take care of you self the way you need to then you dont need to take a shower everyday of you life but most people want to so they can be clean everyday and i understand what you are tryig to say it does make sense but its different with other people and your not an idoit who ever said that is a b**ch they have no right to say that too you your just asking a question and your body does adapt to you not taking a shower everyday dont worry you wont get dirty more i hope this helps you along the way

I agree there's probably a lot of validity to your theory. I know before there were indoor bathrooms people used to bathe once a week and wash their hair less often. I know my grandparent's generation didn't believe in bathing everyday and they never had body odor. They just washed up every night and took a special day to bathe and wash their hair. But I on the other hand, can't imagine not showering and washing my hair everyday. I would just feel nasty and I don't see any reason why we shouldn't shower at least daily because we have the facilities to do so. But we're no longer an impoverished nation an no need for us to be unclean an ungroomed.

When you bathe you don't necessarily have to use chemicals, there are a lot of natural cleansers. But I like the "chemicals" and the pretty smells and I hate germs. I always have to be clean. I just hate to be dirty.

Well, I can see where that comes from. But I think it depends on the person's body chemistry. My boyfriend is in the military so he has to spend a lot of time in the field (without showers) and he can come back after a week and still smell almost clean. Other guys in his unit come back and smell awful. It also has a lot to do with diet, you sweat out impurities. If you eat healthy then there arent as many of these and you are in a sense cleaner. As far as showering goes, it is better to only wash your hair every other day because it allows the natural oils to build up which are essential to your hair's health.

I think that it depends on your type of work and what season it is. Of course, your going to sweat when its hot outside or if you have a physically strenuous job, but then if its winter and you have a less strenuous job, then it would probably be better to shower every other day because the hot water can dry out skin and hair.So I do partially agree with that. I guess you have to take into consideration what skin type you have also. Oily skin would need to be cleaned more often.

I don't know...but I do know that you actually should not wash your hair everyday (unless you have abnormally oily hair) because it's not good for it. As for showers, it's not the biggest deal in the world if one doesn't shower everyday, but I'd say 3 would be a max. I think most people shower everyday or almost everyday and most don't have unhealthy skin, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, I shower every other day. I used to shower every day, but that got me nowhere - I had skin problems due to doing so. So yes, your idea definitely makes sense :)

Every day your body sweats and at night your body sweat too. Dead skin cells fall off every where you go. Although i have heard not washing your hair for a couple of days can help your hair.

It can be done. Once we didn't have any electric for a whole day. I didn't feel that bad really, just a little icky. It's like anything else I guess. Common sense.
