You poor, poor, thing. Migraines are just the worst thing in the world. Women tend to get them more than men & a survey was done & most of the women said they would give up sex for life if they never had to have another migrain.

I get Migraine about once a week
( In it's self that is really bad)
Some last a couple of seconds to a minute (flash headaches)
Some a couple of hours
I never had one lasting a day and being really bad but that normally indicated dehydration
Some mild ones may last a few days
I have had Migraine for around a year a learning when it will strike (early symptoms) is the best method of stopping the occurring using medication.

Migraines are really really unpredictable, when I first started getting them 16 years ago I only had them about once every 6 months then they changed to cluster migraines which meant I got them in clusters so it would be 4 in two weeks and then nothing for 4 to 5 months.
Both times I was pregnant I got them about once a week, and then a couple of years ago i started getting them twice a week for a month and then nothing for 2 or so months.
There was never any warning of one coming, just suddenly my eyesight would start getting blind spots and my left hand side of face and arm would get pins and needles ( an aura) this would last for half an hour or so and then the headache arrives. The only thing I can do when I get one is to go to bed. I usualy sleep solid for 7 to 8 hours before waking up with a dull headache which lasts for another 24 hours or so.
I now take preventative medication and only get then about once every 6 months.
I have just read this back and it soulds like a lot of figures but migraines are jsut so unpredictable lots of people have trigger foods and situations but mine just seem to arrive from nowhere. I hope yours was a one off and not the start of a lifetime of them.

It depends what your trigger is. Some people get them from certain foods like chocolate, coffee or cheese. Others, like me, get hormonal related ones that occur with their period every month. Others are caused by dehydration - there are many reasons!! The best thing to do is to keep a written record of when you have a migraine and that way you can work out if there is a specific cause.

Like Danru mine are on a monthly basis and always a couple of days before my period. Migraine will put me to bed for a few hours in complete darkness and silence. I dont like taking tablets but when i get the migraine i dont care as the pain is so bad, friend of mine gets them at anytime and when she gets them she has to give herself a injection there and then or she will be violently sick and pass out. Most times when i get one i will still feel the effects for at least a day after, a dull ache in the head and very little energy. Hope yours dont become regular, i think its the worst pain anyone could suffer along with a toothache. Orange smelling cleaning and bathing products also give me migraines.

I had one yesterday for the first time in ages. Used to get them once or twice a month when I was a teenager but I seem to have grown out of them. Now I only get a migraine if I'm particularly run down or tired.
ps - Mine aren't of the two day variety though. Usually fuzzy vision/ headache/ nausea over about 5 hours.

Mine occurs almost twice a week. I get them frequently and I'm on prescribed medication for it. Was told that I'm anemic and that's why they come so often. You probably have low iron, that could be another trigger for your migraine. Get your blood checked and stay away from caffeinated foods.
Hope you feel better!

Everyone has their own "spot". When I get migraines they usually start in the lower back part of my head then move forward to the forehead and behind the eyes. Plus that is what makes migraines so mucgh more painful, the pain is more concentrated. Like a needle.

I get mine usually around that time of the month. Mine probably lasts about 1-2days on and off and it happens quite bad about every 2 months. Everyone is different though. You need to find out what your triggers might be.

Everyone is different. I might have several in a month's time, but then I go months without them. I haven't figured out what triggers mine. Sometimes I think it is hormonal.
