OK, I have a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) and am supposed to be drinking LARGE amounts of water throughout the day. Some women advise to drink enough that you're peeing every 15-20 minutes. But I just heard about this horrible story: http://www.nbc11.com/news/10746017/detail.html?rss=bay&psp=news Scary stuff! Do you think she ran into problems because she was trying NOT to urinate?
Anyway, right now I'm chugging it out of these 1.5-liter bottles... How much can I drink safely?

Yes, I'm already drinking cranberry juice too. My question is, How much fluid (mostly water) can I drink, in how much time, without being unsafe?

Consuming as little as 1.8 liters of water in a single sitting may prove fatal for a person adhering to a low-sodium diet, or 3 liters for a person on a normal diet. I don't think they mean even as much as a liter of water when the talk about "large amounts" of water. A liter or two a day would be plenty. Just be sure you don't do it all in one sitting.

From what I`ve ever read, ur supposed to drink about 8 glasses of water a day and I`m assuming that would be 8 oz. per glass. Pure cranberry juice is a proven fact, keeps the urinary tract healthy. Not cranberry juice mixed with other flavors, but just plain cranberry juice.

I read a story in the paper years ago about a little girl who asked for water all the time at night from her father.who got tired of it for some strange reason.and made her drink a lot of water as punishment I suppose and the little girl died. what a shame.seems there was something about flushing some necessary nutrients from the body to quickly? I think that was it.but we all must have water to survive. eight to. ten glasses a day. on the average.we must also eat right.of course fruits and vegetables.to stay healthy.also I know this for a fact ,Golden seal herb tea will cure infections like that that's way down inside you, such as a kidney infection also.and eat fresh garlic which is very good for all infections,.cranberry juice helps flush .but wont actually heal.

The only reason she passed away is because she entered a stupid competition it doesn't really matter how much water you drink although the recommended daily intake is 8 glasses but as long as you urinate it out there's no reason you would have complications, it's more deadly to drink 1.5 litres of coffee or coke than water and since when has water even been bad for anyone?

I think 8 glasses a day is sufficient. Even with an infection. 8 glasses a day is still good enough. Just remember that everything is good for you as long as it is in moderate quantities. Just by consuming a whole lot of water for a few days will not help. It must be made a regular habit to keep the infection away.

You should call your doctor to clarify what LARGE amounts of water means. Otherwise stick to what is recommended ( 8 eight ounce glasses per day).
If you have a UTI, then you should be taking medication to treat it. That should be how to get rid of a UTI, not being concerned about drinking excessive amounts of water.

It IS actually possible to drink too much water, it can thin the blood and make you feint, but it is huge quantities. You are more than safe, and will probably be healthier, if you can drink 2 - 2 1/2 litres a day.

The safest water to drink is filtered tap water. Buy a Brita or Pur filtration system. We just use a Brita pitcher. Spring water and other bottled waters are not necessarily filtered. They may even just be the tap water from the town it is bottled in. Distilled water does not contain vital minerals and is not advisable either.
