i ask this in regards to people like Helen Duncan ... the last witch to be tried in the Uk
During World War II, Duncan held a seance in Portsmouth at which she indicated knowledge that HMS Barham had been sunk. Because this fact had been kept from the public, the British Admiralty chose to attempt to discredit her. Police arrested her after another seance. She was initially arrested for vagrancy, a minor offence. Soon, however, the charge was increased, and she faced first conspiracy and then witchcraft charges. The seeming overzealousness of this prosecution may be explained by the mood of near-paranoia surrounding the impending Battle of Normandy. There were also concerns that she was exploiting the recently-bereaved. It should be noted that the government did not believe she had practised witchcraft; the 1735 statute covers fraudulent "spiritual" activity.

Duncan's trial for witchcraft was a minor cause célèbre in wartime London. A number of prominent people, among them Alfred Dodd, testified that they were convinced that she was authentic. Duncan was however, barred by the Judge from demonstrating her alleged powers as part of her defence against being fraudulent. In a memo to the home secretary, Winston Churchill fulminated about the "obsolete tomfoolery" of the trial. However, he could not prevent a guilty verdict. Duncan was jailed for nine months.

the point is ....
even when something is proven or cannot be disproven
when the government does not want something to be known
it will use any means to take it away from the public
while mediumship was Helens only means of defense ... why is that means disallowed
now this is not just about mediumship ... apply it to anything

Since most of the answer's have a hard time connecting the fact the question is the title, and the details are the example...

Yes People fear what they do not understand. This is enhanced further when a government keeps secrets, and one of these things they do not understand pops up. At that point, they'll go after any thing they can to fix it.

You neglect to mention that everyone of any sense, including Churchill and other government ministers, was so embarrassed
by the whole thing that the Witchcraft Act was repealed in 1951.

I've known the Helen Duncan story for years. It's not a secret.

There may be many "real truths" being hidden, but this is not one of them.

And if you're trying to cite it as some kind of ongoing conspiracy against witches, pagans, wiccans or whatever, then I think you're barking up the wrong tree.

Lots of real truths are being hidden.

The JFK assassination
Roswell
Alien moon bases
USAF bases on Mars and the moon.
the Illuminati
the Mafia
the Marilyn Monroe murder
the Bobby Kennedy assassination
the Martin Luther King assassination
the murders of dozens of free energy and DNA scientists

I could probably keep going, but these are on the top of my list.

Actually charged with witchcraft? I thought that was thrown off the statute book in about 1800. I know a judge did once famously comment "Flying a broomstick is not a criminal offence".

Pangel,
I don't understand people lately. They have become very narrow minded in this category, more so then ever. I see you seeking the truth about something that interests you and are being cut down. What a shame! You are a beautiful caring woman. I don't have an answer for you other then "S*** happens" You go girl. Always with
Peace and Love

i would like to proclaim that NOT all things called witchcrafts are indeed the real thing.
if remote veiwing is a real gift of the spirit, or if SEEING is the same thing just called by a different name than God gives gives of psychic abilities to those whome choose to accept such gifts.
but nothing is a perfect gift unless it is practiced and strengthened by the will of God.

As far as truth is being withheld, it is always known that witches are liars and serve a false doctrine of God.
The real truth of God is hidden even from the prophets why then can christians say they know the truth. ?

I don't quite understand your question with all of the detail that goes with it. "Truths" are hidden from us every single day on a variety of topics and issues from a variety of different sources, included but not limited to: the government, church, medical establishment, corporations, and even our own families.

"Truth", as I have come to understand it, is often very relative.

So what's your point? What's the real question?

It seems to me like you just wanted to talk about Helen Duncan.

Yes -- truths are hidden all the time. The trick is for dedicated people to keep digging them up, and to test them to be sure they really are truth, and to reveal them, as you've just done.
