Weight loss and lethargy can be caused by any number of things. It would be helpful to know what tests your vet has run and what he has come up with or ruled out. Diabetes, hyperthyroidism, and cancer are possibilities. Just pray a lot. If you know the prognosis is not good, do not be afraid to go spend time with him while he is at the vet. He would love to have you with him.

There could be many reasons.
How old is the cat? is he losing fur, is his coat dull?
loss of weight and use of back legs could be kidney failure or hypothyroidism. blood test will show this. These things can sometimes be treated.
It could be a stroke or heart faiure.
neutered male cats of some breeds can have a tendency towards diabetes, again this can be treated
Blood tests should give the vet a good idea of the problem.
one of my own burmese girls had a thyroid operation at age 20, it gave her a new lease of life for 18 months, when she died of kydney failure. which is what most elderly cats die from.
most deaths of young cats are the result of road accidents before they reach a year old. in the region of 250,000 a year are reported as road kills
i hope you have a good result with your cat, and that whatever the outcome, he does not suffer.

my cat had a blocked bladder and he has similar symptoms, he is fine now after some tablets

my mum and dads cat recently had a stroke - it looked like an epylictic fit. Turns out she is as fit as a fiddle though and although she will have them from time to time, she will be ok for another year or so and isnt in any pain. She is nearly 20!

Don't fret, just wait to see what the vet says. I hope he is ok.

you should target posting this interior the criminal section and get their suggestion. truly, the vet appears like a fool. Did he not examine the gender of the cat earlier he placed it less than? Did he not search for suggestion from his surgical charts previously? Did they not even make an effort to seem? apart from, can the vet provide data that the male cat necessary hernia surgical procedure so that you recognize he's not mendacity to you to cover his mistake? regrettably, medical doctors will commonly misinform dodge being sued. the expenses of surgical procedure variety a lot around the position I stay, I desire i ought to help you on the in simple terms proper fee. at the same time as my oldest cat replaced into fixed, it replaced into $100 and fifty. at the same time as my youngest cat replaced into fixed, it replaced into $350 and that i used the same health practitioner both situations. notwithstanding, i imagine $1400 sounds slightly extreme for animal surgical procedure. until eventually the cat replaced into huge, that looks suspicious. have you ever called different veterinarians (truthful ones) and ask their opinion on the problem? i ought to actual save on with the suggestion the above answerers said - the BBB and small claims court docket. This vet does not should flee with a mistake like this - what if he were to screw up that fee an animal existence interior the destiny?

Sorry to hear about your cat. It could be anything from a simple virus to something more serious. He is in the best place right now to get the treatment he needs. A friends dog was unable to walk for no apparent reason, it took ages to get right back to normal but with physio & other treatment made an almost full recovery.Fingers crossed...................

Could have had a stroke. Also, my mom in law had a cat that did that and when she took him to vet they said that he was actually half dead. He just didn't have it in him to give up completely on his own.

Not the information you want to hear, and I sure hope that the cat gets better, but it doesn't sound good. Just keep in mind that he has had a good home with you.
