Disneyland used to make them virgin, but now they have some dumb "mint julep" soda that is carbonated and tastes just odd. I don't mind if it has alcohol in it, as long as it isn't overpowering.

Disney's "mint julep" is just a mild spearmint soda.

Traditional mint juleps are spearmint leaves, sugar or simple syrup, whiskey, ice and soda water. You can tweak on the proportions to suit your taste.

A mojito is the same thing with rum instead of whiskey. Using light rum reduces the "booze taste" and makes it taste more like the Disney version with a kick.

Just add enough whiskey to suit yourself. A little club soda is a nice addition, too.

The Early Times Mint Julep Recipe

2 cups sugar
2 cups water
Sprigs of fresh mint
Crushed ice
Early Times Kentucky Whisky
Silver Julep Cups
Make a simple syrup by boiling sugar and water together for five minutes with six or eight or more sprigs of fresh mint. Cool and place in a covered container then refrigerate overnight. Make one julep at a time by filling a julep cup with crushed ice, adding one tablespoon mint syrup and two ounces of Early Times Kentucky Whisky. Stir rapidly with a spoon to frost the outside of the cup. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint

Have you tried mojito? This cuban classic is the most drinked julep in the world. The Original receipt: 1/2 lime, few leaves of mint, sugar syrup - You squeeze the together, you add 4 cl Bacardi, fill up your glass, with crushed ice (if you can`t get, the ice cubes will do too) and fill up your glass with soda, and stir it gently. But I suggest instead of syrup to use brown sugar. The caipirinha with some leaves of mint is nice as well. 3/4 of a lime, mint leaves, custard sugar, squeeze them, add 4cl cachaca, and icecubes, and shake it well. The ice gonna get melted, so it`s not strong at all.
