Hey there, I was wondering if someone could tell me if it is ok to do weights after an intense 1 hour cardio session?
It's getting cold out in my garage where I keep the weight equipment and punch bag, and just like to be warmed up first! Im in UK so it's pretty damn cold at moment..
Alternatively, if you have any cheap ideas for heating a double garage, I may just do that.
Best answer chosen as always, thanks for ur help.

Thanks for all your help! I think I will shorten my cardio to around 5-10 mins on weight training days, and do an hour on each rest day. I take nutritional supplements which help with the whole process.
I will buy a cheap heater then for the garage lol
Thanks, you have answered my question:)

What you do is absolutely correct. Have a warm-up before you go on the weights. Reduces you chances of injuries from working cold muscles. But maybe not a whole hour?? Maybe 20-30 mins max??
I see it in the gym all the time, guys who come in from the cold and go straight on the heavy weights. No warm up before, no stretching afterwards, and then loads of complaining when they've torn their rotator cuff etc...
Maybe just make sure that your warm-up does not pre-exhaust the muscles you want to work afterwards, e.g. maybe run for a warm up or cycle if you're doing chest/biceps/triceps/shoulders instead of lets say boxing? Just a suggestion, so your arms are not too tired to lift properly. Likewise maybe a boxing warm up would be good if you want to do some heavy squats, rather than go for a run for an hour and then slap on the squat weight when your legs are like jelly??
LOL... heaters for a double garage?? Not my field... but here's a link... http://www.machinemart.co.uk/ranges.asp?g=118&r=2138
Keep at it!!

I would not recommend lifting after heavy cardio.
"If you do weights after cardio, your weights performance will be at about 60% (versus 100% if you weight-trained first or at a separate time)."
source-- Mind Over Fatter, by Gina Paolino
But I have found many books that recommend a five to seven minute light cardio work out to warm up. (Sorry, I do not have a source for these.)

How about on the days that you do weight training, you back down to 1/2 hour cardio session?

To be honest, an hour's cardio session is probably about 30 minutes too long. 30 mins cardio, and 30 mins resistance work every two days will keep you fit and keep the weight off

okay heres what you need to do my friend...
warm up by doing some cardio but only for say....10 minutes.
this will get your blood pumping and you shouldn't be cold anymore.
then lift
then do the rest of your cardio.
a hour of cardio is alot to do, i suggest 1/2 hour if your trying to lose weight.
however if your trying to get faster by doing so much cardio, dry doing wind sprints. or even try running 40 yards, jogging 40 yards.

it is ok to do 10 minutes of light to moderate cardio like walking on a treadmill before your resistance. if you do 1 hour of cardio prior to resistance you are burning up all your glycogen and will not be able to lift as much weight. i suggest you buy a small electric space heater (around 20 bucks in the us) and turn it on about 20 mins before you work out close to your work out area.

Download your favourite tracks to work through to. If you’ve committed to a half hour session a day then a 30-minute soundtrack of the very upbeat, motivating tunes will hold you pumped up!
