What you saw your dog do was the equivalent of saying, "I said, CUT IT OUT!" - Your dog was annoyed by annoying behavior, and told the other dog so. It's very good of you to be watchful - even a 3 year old with no history of short-temperedness. Carry treats with you just in case though. If your dog's hair raises up and he begins to growl at an approaching dog, don't wait to see what's going to happen. Instead, re-direct your dog w/help of treats away from that dog.
Here's a link that will help you to 'read' your dog's body language:

If your dog has never shown signs of aggression then the probability of him continuing this behaviour is quite low. As dogs cant yell and scream for someone to stop doing something to them that they dont like, a snap is a dogs way of saying "back off" He probably did it with no intention of actually hurting the other dog, just a way of telling him that he didnt like what he was doing to him.
What the other dog did is a sign of dominance, and your dog was probably reacting to that, telling him that he was infact the dominant one and not to belittle him like that - especially in front of you - someone who he loves and respects.
I wouldnt worry about it if I were you. Your dog was just defending his (and your) honour. Just as a growl is a small warning to back off, so is a little snap in a situation such as this.
I hope I helped a little!

Labs are very gentle by nature, for one to be aggressive it would take some pretty extreme abuse - psychologically or physically. Your dog probably snipped because of the other dog humping him. Humping is sign of dominance unless done for procreation and since your dog is male, it was a dominance sign and your dog obviously wasn't having any of it. He was just asserting control, not being mean.

Do some reading up on how dogs communicate.
Your dog was just telling the other dog to back off.

i would not worry about it, it just sounds like he was sticking up for himself...if he does it again tell him no in a firm voice so he knows its wrong. If another dog bugs him he has to be confident that you as his master will get him out of the situation. If he was going to be aggressive you would have seen more sign by now.
Good luck with you doggie!!!

he was reacting to the other dog trying to show dominance over him. honestly this was a normal reaction. but i always reccomend professional training for any dog. not only will it build your dog's confidence, but it will bond the two of you better and teach him you are to be respected and listened to. and makes a better all around pet. but i don't blame him. if someone came up to me and started humping me i think i would do something too. but seriously, enroll your dog in a training class no matter. and good for you for exercising your dog.

Your dog is not going to be aggressive. Its not uncommon for any dog to do that when another dog trys to mate with it.

NO HE IS NOT GOING TO BE AGRESSIVE. HE WAS JUST PROTECTING YOU AND TELLING THE LITTLE DOG TO WATCH IT-THATS ALL. A 3 YR OLD DOG HAS ALREADY DEVELOPED HIS PERSONALITY SO I WOULDN'T WORRY ABOUT IT. THAT'S A GOOD DOG.
