All a person has to do is fill out one FAFSA form. There is an opportunity to list all the school numbers on them. The best thing is to apply well before the deadline for the earliest school because otherwise it could effect your financial aid from the individual school itself. Also, the individual states have a a deadline for the FAFSA form to be submitted, too.

Check out FAFSA online: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/
The deadline for filling out the form seems to be June 30th or July 2nd, depending on the school year you're filing for. Each school handles financial aid differently, so you need to check with the colleges you are applying to. When you fill out the FAFSA online, they give you an option to send it to the schools you are applying. You just need to fill in the official school codes, which can be found here: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/FOTWWebApp/FSLookupServlet.
Definitely visit the first link to read more about it, and get started filling it out online, which is much faster. Good luck!

You fill out one FAFSA and at the end of the worksheet there is a place to list the colleges which you are applying to. Then the government sends the processed data to all these schools. If you end up going to a school you did not list is it not a big deal. You will get a SAR worksheet (its pink) in the mail and you just take this to the financial aid office at your college and they can use it to access your information.

you've received some good answers so far, but i just want to clarify a few things. you can only list 6 college federal school codes, so not all financial aid administrators have acceses - just the ones at the schools you list.
each school has its own financial aid deadline - however there are some schools who don't have a deadline at all. definitely find out which school has the earliest deadline.

You will fill out just one FAFSA. All financial aid administrators will be able to access your info after you file it. I would suggest that you file online so that you will know your status quicker. You will receive your SAR (student aid report) within a couple of weeks after filing. Go to this site for more information.
