This is just as irritating a use of the "did you know" as the fundie's usage. "Did you know Jesus is Lord?" assumes the truth of the statement "Jesus is Lord". The question "Did you know there is a spiritual gene?" assumes the truth of "there is a spiritual gene" and betrays your scientistic attitude.
"Did you know some bloke says he's found a spiritual gene" would be better:
1. People may not know it
2. Its not a contentious claim.
I very much doubt the possible existence of this "spiritual gene". To count as a "spiritual gene" there would have to be a one-to-one mapping of the possession of the gene and spirituality. As spirituality is a reasonably broad notion covering a RANGE of behaviours a one to one mapping of gene to attribute is probably not possible. I would predict that this chap who says he found it will, if pressed, admit only a probabalistic link to a "tendency" (tendency as opposed to causal relationship).
