I had a low iorn count once about six months ago, I went to the doctor and they said everything was fine but my feet turn purple from time to time and I am still tired after an average of 10 hours of sleep everynight. I know this is not normal for a 14 year old. I wonder if something is still wrong.

When doctors test for iron, they have a range that they deem to be normal. Your iron level may be at the low end of that range. Some people with safe iron levels at the low range still experience symptoms of anemia. A good idea would be to take a multivitamin that has a higher level of iron in it (the ingredient may list the iron as "ferric oxide").

Sadly, some doctors aren't as knowledgeable as others, so you may need to see another doctor to get your issues taken care of.

Iron is a major component needed in blood. It provides energy for your body. It also gives blood it's color.

You may need to take iron pills when you wake up in the morning. Six months ago, you said your iron count was low. The doctor said everything was fine, but you were still tired. That means you still have a low iron count and most likely are anemic, which is where you have little iron in your blood.

If you do take iron pills, these will supply your blood with more iron and will keep you energized. Don't rely on energy drinks and other supplements. The caffeine will stunt your growth and being anemic can cause it to have a reverse affect on your body and make you fall asleep instead of getting a large amount of energy.

I have had low iron all my life, feeling tired is normal but my feet have never turned purple. Have you tried taking iron tablets? you can also eat more red meat and strawberries are also high in iron. Make sure you are also getting vitamin c as well. If you are worried go and see a doctor.. Good luck

You don't say if your a male or female and it makes a difference because the iron requirements are different for males and females. Females need more iron. You need to get your parents to take you to see a doctor though. Are you eating a well balanced diet? Getting plenty of vitamins and minerals, or are you on "a diet?"
