I don't mean this in an offensive way just an educational one. I wanted to know if you have actually read the Quran in a language you can understand instead of arabic? Is islam really what you perceive it to be?
Please check the following suras, respectively:

4:34, 5:38, 9:29, 5:33, 2:191, 5:51, 4:89, 9:123, 33:50

This is site where you can find English translations by Yusif Ali:

Muslims here seem to be in denial. Unfortunately, there are two things wrong with the argument they gave for justifying the verses that order the killing of infidels.
1) muslims are required to believe that the Quran is applicable for all time and the last thing Mohammad said his followers was in verse 9:29 (kill all those who do not believe in the last day).
2) Muhammad is supposed to be the perfect example for all mankind and his actions are law. In his lifetime he fought 78 wars and all but one (battle of azhab) was defensive. The rest were offensive. And Muhammad did sickening things to expand Islam like allowing sex slaves captured in war (sura 33:50) and raiding meccan caravans, killing them, then taking the booty. Why anyone would attempt to justify these horrible acts are beyond me. I actually had two muslims here actually try and justify beating your wife.

Do moderate muslims actually know what the Quran teaches?-(No offense intended)?

Yes.................

Knowing what it says needs INTERPRETATION by a Mullah!

Otherwise all the below could be taken at face value and would then prove that that much Beloved Quaran was indeed a book of HATE and KILLING!

~~~~~~~~~~
The Verse Of The Sword from Al-Tawbah
Fight and slay the pagans (infidels) wherever ye find them, and seize them,
beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem of war." - Sura 9:5
"Prophet, make war on unbelievers and hypocrites, and deal rigorously
with them." - Sura 9:73
"Let not the unbelievers think they will ever get away. They have not
the power to do so. Muster against them all the men and cavalry at
your command, so that you may strike terror into the enemy of Allah
and your enemy... Prophet, (Mohammed) rouse the faithful to arms!
If they (the non-Muslims) incline to peace (accept Islam) make
peace with them." - Sura 8:59
"If they reject your judgement, know that it is Allah's wish to scourge
them for their sins." - Sura 5:49
"Believers (Muslims), take neither Jews nor Christians to be your
friends: they are friends with one another.
Whoever of you seeks their friendship shall become one of their number,
and Allah does not guide (those Jewish and Christian) wrong-doers." - Sura 5:51
The Prophets and messengers are loose from sin earlier than and after the message. If they do whatever then that is an inward command. This is the expertise of the bulk. Someone who says that a prophet could make a mistake or a essential sin will have to no longer be adopted and his opinion to be taken as suspect.
I hope you realize that this question is not unlike asking moderate Christians if they have read the Bible. Of course moderate Muslims have read the Quran. It is a much shorter book than the Bible, and isn't that hard a work to absorb.
Moderate Muslims do the same thing with controversial passages that Christians do with their own - interpret them in a sensible and moderate way, appreciative of the historical and cultural context.
Surah 4: Women
Verse 34:
In the name of god, the most gracious, the dispenser of grace;
MEN SHALL take full care of women with the bounties which God has bestowed more abundantly on the former than on the latter, and with that they may spend out of their possessions. And the righteous women are the truly devout ones, who guard the intimacy which God has [ordained to be] guarded. And as for those women whose ill-will you have reason to fear, admonish them [first]; then leave them alone in bed; then beat them; and if thereupon they pay you heed, do not see harm to them. Behold, God is indeed most high, great! (4:34)
For this verse I know that you are focusing on the “beat them” part. Well here is what it means: if a wife rises against her husband and disobeys him, he must at first admonish her, and if she desists, the second stage is to leave her in bed alone, and if she still persists, then the third stage is to chastise her. “Beat them” does not mean hit them real hard, or punch them or any cruel stuff. It means to hit them in such a way as not to cause pain just so the wife will know that she is wrong. IE: hit her really softly on her back or hand.
When people read this verse they think of “beat them” as in “beat them up” but the real thing is like for example, when a baby does something wrong and the parents hit him on his butt softly so he can know he had done something wrong, is the same asbeating the wife.
Surah 2: The Cow
Verse 191:
In the name of god, the most gracious, the dispenser of grace;
AND FIGHT in God’s cause against those who wage war against you, but do not commit aggression- for, verily, God does not love aggressors.(2:190) And slay them wherever you may come upon them, and drive them away from wherever they drove you away- for oppression is even wore than killing. And fight not against them near the Inviolable House of Worship unless they fight against you there first; but if they fight against you, slay them: such shall be the recompense of those who deny the truth. (2: 191)
To kill the enemy wherever one finds him is nothing strange when a state of war exists, and yet critics of Islam draw the most grotesque conclusions from these words. Do the civilized nations fight with each other to spare their enemies? The personal pronoun in the words kill them refers to those whom fighting is enjoined in the previous verse.
Surah 5: The Repast
Verse 38:
In the name of god, the most gracious, the dispenser of grace;
NOW AS FOR the man who steals and the woman who steals, cut off the hand of either of them in requital for what they have wrought, as a deterrent ordained by God: for God is almighty, wise. (5:38)
Like adultery, the crime of theft has been severely dealt with by Islam. If adultery deprives people of purity of conduct and character and spoils the health of the human society, theft carries away the life-interest of the individuals and even of families together and brings a change in the economic life of the people from happiness to misery and destitution. Cutting of the hands of the thief, might sound to be as heartless and barbarous but it makes the new entrants to the criminal trait, immediately return to conscientious thinking. If one compares the number of crimes like adultery and theft, committed in the olden days when such offences were treated by such drastic steps, and the modern days of the modern laws, one will be convinced that such severe laws, could wipe out or at least control, these major crimes effectively.
new generations have the ability to understand if they have a passion and interest to persue their needs of knowledge. modern muslims may know what the Quran teaches if they actually read it and try to understand its logic. depends on the person. peace
to me muslim and christianity go hand in hand. Most christians probably dont fully understand the bible... i dont blame them i wouldn't sit there and read that thing
They both say things about non-believers dying... for christians its just that they're going to burn in hell, while the rest are saved.
The main rules in both religions is to worship their God. Who cares what kind of person you are.... as long as you worship god...........
