Go to Amazon.com and check out the customer reviews for both. The Garmin destroyed the TomTom. As far as personal experience I have only used Garmin for five years now and the brand has almost never let me down.

Look at the reviews. They showed a similar margin (about 10 times as many reviews for the Garmin, making me think it's the better seller). Also, on the Amazon pages, Amazon shows what percentages of people actually end up buying the product after viewing its page. The Garmin had a higher rate of buyers, and on top of that, it also showed that after looking at the TomTom page, a small percentage of people actually went and bought the Garmin one.

I'd say the Garmin Nuvi 350 is better.

I looked at both products on Cnet.com. The TomTom GO 510 got a "6.0 out of 10", and the Garmin Nuvi 350 got an 8.3. There was also about 10 times as many reviews for the Garmin, which led me to believe the Garmin is the bestseller of the 2 (and by a wide margin).

I also looked at Amazon.com, and looking there the reviews also showed a similar margin (about 10 times as many reviews for the Garmin, making me think it's the better seller). Also, on the Amazon pages, Amazon shows what percentages of people actually end up buying the product after viewing its page. The Garmin had a higher rate of buyers, and on top of that, it also showed that after looking at the TomTom page, a small percentage of people actually went and bought the Garmin one.

Conclusion: the Garmin looks to be a little more expensive. But it seems like the extra boost in quality is worth it.
