This is Easy... Your Mom 's paying for insuracnce If she filled the forms out Insurnance compny knows there is a 17 year old living in the House. If she didn't tell them SHE can be cancelled at anytime when They find out. And don't have to Notify her til the next billing period... So she could be driving with no insurance and not even know it... Doesn't happen to offen. But when it does its usually when the Child has a wreck...

Next... If you get a car and She gets the Registration in her name Your in the same boat.... If she lets you drive and you don't have insurance to cover you while driving Many things can happen to Her. Biggest is being sued if you get in a wreck. And if you get caught driving without insurance to cover you and you Have an accident ((even if its not your fault)) and you don't have insurance covering you as the drivier, you can get a ticket and Jail time(if you cause any injurys)...Also if your MOM see's that see might be getting a ticket for your actions she just has to say YOU DIDN"T HAVE PREMISSION TO DRIVE THE CAR,,, You go to jail for theft.

Get Insurance get coverage before you drive...... Also Get some life insurance, if your hiding the fact that your driving at 17 and do something to kill yourself behind the wheel YOUR mother will need the extra Cash....From the Life Policy....

Without knowing where you are, it is difficult to answer this question precisely. Where I am, the learner's "permit" is a licence, it's just a licence with a whole bunch of restrictions on it, the most important of which is that you are unable to drive without a fully licenced (and sober) driver with you at all times. I would therefore have to inform my insurance company of anyone in my household who has or has acquired a licence, as this is a material change in risk. If I fail to do this, then this is considered a breach of contract (as I agreed to inform the insurer of all material changes when I applied), therefore the contract is voidable by the injured party, in this case the insurer. This means the insurer can choose to void the contract from it's inception should they find out, say by there being a claim, or they may decide to retain the risk and charge the extra premium, if there is any. However if they find out becasue there was an accident, I can guarantee you they will void the policy, and the driver AND the owner of the vehicle will be on the hook for all damages liable, plus all of their damages which they are not liable for.
The only thing I can recommend is to ask an insurance professional where you are. Keep in mind if you ask the broker/agent where your mother is insured, that broker/agent is obligated to inform the insurer of the material change in risk.

Insurance goes with the car, not the driver. If you've been added as a driver on your mother's insurance, you can drive her car, which is what you have been doing. If you buy a car for you, even if mom puts it in her name, you now have a second car to insure, and your bill will increase.

As to your friend, if he hasn't told them he has a license and is driving and he gets into an accident, he may not be covered. When you sign up for insurance, if you read the small print carefully it does say "If anything changes, I agree to tell you." If you don't, that constitutes fraud, and they may use that as an excuse to not cover you.

Go talk to your agent to see what it will go up, and offer to pay the difference.

it depends on the state you live in. in mass the insurance won't cover the car if your in an accident if you live at the same address as your parents. how ever if you live at another address it will. i have to have my mother on my insurance to cover her incase she's in an accident while she is driving my car. you should try calling another insurance company in your state and asking them.
