My cat died recently. She was found sleeping in her usual position on a couch. There were no symptoms, she seemed perfectly normal. The day before she died we lost power and the temperture went down roughly 20 degrees, but it had returned to normal hours before her death. The vet said it was likely a stroke. Any other possibilites?

I am sorry to hear about your cat! How old was your kitty and how cold did it get in your house? Sounds like she died peacefully though, which is nice to know! I would agree with either a stroke or heart attack but I am not really familiar with asymptomatic kitty deaths (all 4 of my cats were put down due to kidney failure and cancer so I have never experienced sudden death in kitties). Do you have any other possibilities in mind? Was she an outdoor cat because maybe poisoning was a possibility, but I would think there'd be other symptoms with that as well (foaming at the mouth, convulsions, distressed meowing).

A stroke is very possible. I really dont think it has anything to do with the cold, as cats are covered with fur which insulates the body well. Cat's can have blood pressure problems which most times go unnoticed until there are problems.

My cat had a stroke at 16, although it did not kill him, the vet thought it was blood pressure. With his age and other medical conditions we decided to let him go.

Not that you could ever replace her, but get another kitten and love it to pieces like I know you did the other.

Stroke or heart attack. I doubt the temps had anything to do with it. My 2 yr old cat died in his sleep as well and he wasnt sick either. In fact, before he tok a nap, he had been romping with his littermate.

Unless you do an autopsy, you really have to go with what the vet said. At least she went peacefully in her sleep.
