I am 25 years old, and my husband's co-worker has asked me to babysit his 2 kids (5 years old, and 18 months old) this Tuesday for about 5 hours at their house. No mention of payment has come up; should I charge them at all? I'm not some teenager doing this for extra pocket change... Its not like I'm a day care center worker. Should I still charge....? How much? When I was a babysitting teenager, I charged $3/hour, which seems like nothing now. Any suggestions/comments are appreciated! Thanks!!

For just one time, I wouldn't mention the money, unless they bring it up, and I would say then that $25 is about right. If it's going to turn into a regular gig, I would definitely charge to avoid resentment building up later on. If they don't pay you the first time, but ask you for another night, say "sure, I usually charge $2.50/hour per child."

If its just a one time thing I would not worry about it. If it becomes a every day/every week thing then I would start to think about how much to charge. But like I said I would not even charge anything.

Maybe just charge $10 for the night, it sounds like they are making it as easy as possible for you by having you do it at their house. I think 10 is fair.

If it's just once I wouldn't worry. I'm sure that they don't expect you to do it for free, especially since you are going to their house. I'd do it and if they pay you, great, but if not, don't worry about it. If they ask you how much you want, I think 20 is reasonable for a 1 time thing.

My babysitter charges $12 an hour for two kids. It's a good deal......

You could just ask them to treat you and your husband to dinner. I am not sure how close you are with them but I think I would be inclined to do it one time without charging but definiately don't do it again without some prior fee arrangement.
