And why does popping a joint sometimes hurt so much but feel so good?

It is air escaping from the joint. My chiropractor told me it is not harmful to crack your knuckles but you shouldn't force it to crack if it doesn't crack right away. He also said this would not cause arthritis or large knuckles.

it is not hazardous... the sound you're listening to is the sound of synovial fluid flowing again into the joint... after the cracking you are going to believe a transitority sensation of extra mobility within the joint... there are lots of folks that think that cracking knuckles reasons arthritis... however there may be most likely no medical proof to again up the ones rumors.
