Does the TV work with other sources (say a VCR) ?
If yes, check your connectors and see if the DVD plays in another TV
Does the DVD work with another TV?
What connector do you use? Composite, s-video, component, hdmi?
Can you try different cables?
Did you select the appropriate source on the TV?

Check your TV's and DVD's manual for helpful troubleshooting tips.

Make sure your tv is set to 480 resolution (not 720 or 1080). If you have it on high-def 1080 it will be looking for a 1080 signal. Your dvd/vhs combo player probably does not have the high powered capability to even reach 480 resolution.

Check your connections, too. Is the DVD player "out" going into the tv "in"? Are you using the "SOURCE" button on your tv to find the right input (e.g. AV1, AV2, HDMI)?
