I have a 1 1/2 year old maltese x poodle. She is an ex-cruelty case but even so she was quite easy to toilet train. A couple of days ago I woke up and she had poo'd inside. I had a quiet and firm talk with her as I believe it is bad to scald dogs for toileting as they come to believe that they are being punished for doing the deed itself and not where they are doing it. She didnt poo for 2 days after this. Today I woke up and found 3 poo's inside in the same spot. We only have her and no other pets so she couldnt have been scent covering, and since she did it last time I have cleaned the carpet so she couldnt smell it. She has full access to outside and no reason not to go out i.e. it hasnt been cold, hot, windy or raining. Infact she spends most of the night outside watching people walk past and watching the world go by. I am so confused why she is doing this! She is a beautiful, happy, intelligent dog who is the love of my life and is absolutely part of the family. Please help us!

Normally dogs do not break routine for no reason. She may have had accident fiirst time and it is hard to get that odor out completely. They will normally go to the scent.

Is there any noticeable change in her poop?? Been checked for worms lately? Sometimes a dog will do something like this to alert yu to a problem. They are so smart.

Clean area and put paper there just in case until you figure out what is going on. Something has happened to upset routine. If she is otherwise healthy, no stomach problem, worms, etc then think back. It could have been something silly or "unimportant" that has happened, maybe even weeks ago. As silly as you were around another dog somewhere and got the scent on your clothes? Been sick and changed your routine? New people visiting? Doesn't take much to upset the little breeds.

You may have done something to upset her...or something is upsetting her. My dog would do that if she saw another dog (inside or outside of the house) because she thought we were going to get a new dog and get rid of her. Maybe you need to give her some extra attention...pamper her a bit...!?

I've heard dogs won't go to the toilet near where they eat so maybe you could try putting her food/water in the spot where she is going to encourage her to take toilet time back outside?

Sounds like she's mad at you. There is also a thing called dirty dog syndrome. Dogs will have full opportunity to go outside, but they would rather be by their mess.
