I have 5 year old twin girls. For about the past week or so, one of them has been eating so much. She would be happy eating 24 hours a day. She has also been sleeping alot. I was just wondering if it was common for children who are going through a growth spurt to sleep more often. The babysitter said when she gets there in the morning she will go back to sleep for a couple hours, then she says shes tired later in the afternoon. Is this common?

Oh yes. It's normal for kids to sleep alot when they're having a growth spurt. Her body is working a little harder and needs more energy (extra eating) and rest (the sleeping). Sometimes to much sleep can make you tired also.

It's probably a growth spurt. If not, is your daughter doing a sport that she usually doesn't play? Just think about what she's been doing lately. Also, If she has changed her schedule, sometimes people get tired when a change happens. Think about it and good luck!

It's normal. My daughter eats and sleeps more before growth spurts too... In fact, she is taking a nap right now. (very rare for her)

If your child isn't acting sick and doesn't have a fever or anything, don't worry about it. Look at her diet to make sure she is getting plenty of all the healthy things her little body needs. And if it lasts too long, you can always talk to her doctor.

They grow fast, don't they? :)

Well does she have low iron? Could be a growth spurt also; my son; is going through one but he isn't tired; instead he's be staying up and he eats more than usual. But if she is always tired like that; you should find out about her iron level.

yes it's very common, I have three kids and they all do this about every six months. When they hit aroung 10-12 they will start getting pains in their legs, thats because they are growing. It can get expensive with all the eating but they need the nutirents just make sure it's heatlhy stuff you give them.. also all the growing they are doing does make them tired. That's why teens like to sleep so much, because that is when you grow the most and the fastest.

I do think that's common. If you are concerned, maybe you should talk to her doctor. But kids do that sometimes, I think she's ok....How rude of the other person, huh?
