had a c-section with my first born- almost 7 years ago. I am 37 weeks and want to have a VBAC- or at least try. Anyone else that has done this- stories? advice? tips? comments? suggestions? Thanks.

First labor was 23 hours. I was induced at 42 weeks- and only dialated to a 3. Never effaced and baby never dropped. Labor wasn't progressing and starting to "slow" so after 23 hours I ended up with a c-section. I was in labor 10 hours before I had my epidural- the Dr's tried to convince me to have a c-section then- but i didnt want to- i wanted to try and wait it out and see if i progressed more... obviously that never happened.

This pregnancy at 37 weeks I'm dialated to a 1.. 50% effaced already and the baby has completely dropped.

ok
as long as you dr has no promblems with you trying a VBAC go for it.
I had 2 children in the 80s c-section and it was the vertical cut(belly button down) I then had 5 VBACs with no promblems.
their is risk but it is healther for the baby to be delivered through the birth canael(its helps to squeese out the fluides and stuff out of their lungs)
good luck

Will your doc do this? In my area docs will not because there is too much of a risk for rupturing the uterus. Honestly though, if you had already had a c section i would say go for another. I have three children, two traditionally, and the third a c section. Besides the recovery, that was harder the first day after delivery, everything else was so much less stess and easier. Usually I am a naturalist but if I could do it all over agian knowing I would utimatley have a c section, I would have had all three deliveries by cesarian.

I would suggest hiring a doula for your birth. Hopefully you'll be able to find one at this late date. The more active you are in labor the better chance you'll have of progressing. Being upright and moving around will help. "Failure to progress" is the number one reason for c-sections in this country. Lying down in bed being strapped to an epidural will increase your chances for a repeat cesarean. Don't let them induce you with this one. That will increase your chances of having a uterine rupture. Pitocin is contraindicated in a VBAC.

Good luck to you. Happy birthing.

with your case it sounds very likely that you can considering your' obviously not having the same problem. my fiance was born by c sectiona dn his little brother was born vaginally! so yes there is always a chance and i say go for it!.

As long as your doc thinks it's safe go ahead and give it a try.
