I can't believe the wrong answers here. A sq. foot is 0.0929 sq. meter, so ........16 x 11 x 0.0929 =16.35²m. Simple sum.
All the rest are wrong, especially Jay Dubb. Just for walking!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's a technique to figure out almost any such unit-conversion
problem, using fractions. You treat the units (yard, foot, cm) as if
they represented some numbers, the actual values of which you don't
know.
You can find out (by looking it up in an appropriate book like an
almanac) that there are 3 feet in a yard. So you make a fraction
3 feet
------
yard
Since "3 feet" and "1 yard" are the same, the whole fraction is equal to
1.
You also know that there are 30 centimeters (approximately) in a foot.
This gets you
30 cm
-----
foot

First convert your two measurements by multiplying by the constant 0.3048. 13ft x 0.3048 = 3.9624 16ft x 0.3048 = 4.8768 Then multiply these two measurements together to give you the room's area in square metres. 3.9624 x 4.8768 = 19.323832 square metres is your answer. 4 x 0.3048 = 1.2192 5 x 0.3048 = 1.74 1.2192 x 1.74 = 2.121408 square metres 17 x 0.3048 = 5.1816 5 x 0.3048 = 1.524 5.1816 x 1.524 = 7.8967584 17 x 0.3048 = 5.1816 10 x 0.3048 = 3.048 5.1816 x 3.048 = 15.793516 14 x 0.3048 = 4.2672 11 x 0.3048 = 3.3528 4.2672 x 3.3528 = 14.307068 15 x 0.3048 = 4.572 11 x 0.3048 = 3.3528 4.572 x 3.3528 = 15.329001

A room 16ft x 11ft is 5 metres x 4 metres. So in total you need 20 square metres of whatever it is you are measuring for. (You will have a little extra, as you buy in square metres, therefore answer is the total you need to buy).

You multiply 16 ft. by 11 which is 176 square feet. The room size is measured by square footage not by meters. Meters are when you are walking. There is no such thing as square meters in square footage.

1 ft = 0.3048m (from Yahoo conversion calculator)
16 ft = 0.3048 x 16 m = 4.8768 m
11 ft = 0.3048 x 11 m = 3.3528 m
Area of room = 4.8768 x 3.3528 m² = 16.4 m²
