a guy i dated ill call duke,for a year promised to stop drinking. he was always needing to have a couple of beers. I came out of an abusive situation where an exhusband, i'll call randy, would drink and pound on me, so i didn't want to be around a drinker. I left duke on christmas day and today he sends a message that he is working alot so he doesn't have to think and that yes he is still drinking and that he is sorry someone elses drinking caused me so much pain. he said that he is thru with me because i wont stay around for any holiday. I say i can't stand the drinking. dukes intire family including kids have alcoholic problems. was i right to get out. he had real anger management problems even when he wasn't drinking.

It was probably the best thing you could've done. if he had problems without the drinking they would more than likely intensify with alcohol. Not only that but if the drinking bothered you so much it would not get any better with time, you would have been miserable with him and resented him.
