Insecurity....she is worried what other people will think about her. It should not even matter!!!!!!! I am 8 months older than my husband and we don't even think about it...we are meant for each other and it doesn't effect us at all. I don't care what people think...who cares... n

She will always be conscientious of the age difference and it will tend to send her mind out there sometimes because society has made it very clear that it's not the norm or that it's tabu. Your job is to continue to remind her why she gave the relationship a chance anyway. Remind her that she is a 'rebel' to society in some way and swimming upstream is a part of her nature that she is supppose to be proud of, it's what makes her unique. Ask her if she feels that she needs to talk to a professional couselor to help her understand that her decision is just what it is a decision and peer pressure is NEVER to out weigh LOVE. Five years is really not that bad unless she has REALLY matured and changed since you met her and she now realizes that she has changed. You both may want to talk to a professional or you may have to let the relationship play itself out. I out matured my husband wayyyy before I married him but was too distracted by raising kids that I was having every year to know it. Now 20 yrs later he is trying to finally catch up. Are you dependable, trustworthy, do you take initiative with important things or ask her her opinion first? Do you pay your bills and not get bills you don't need? Do you have a job with the ambition to go further? Are you trying to get a better education? Maybe these things are just starting to become important to her and she is getting alarmed that you may not see the same need.

If she doesn't care, that's what matters.

I don't always go by this when discussing age differences, but a general rule used often for people 18 or older is that "half your age plus seven" is the youngest you should date. By that rule, you're on the young side, but you're still OK.

What matters more is maturity and place in life. Often, big age differences mean that one wants to settle down and have a family sooner than the other can handle. If it gets to any serious level, you may want to find out what her intentions are with having a family.

It's probably that society has always though that the guy should be older than the girl, but that doesn't happen as often. If she can't get over it, maybe it's not worth it. Does it bother you that she cares so much? Try talking to her to get her side. Ask her why she cares so much about age. Hope this helps. :-)

Have you seen the movie called "Prime" with Uma Thurman and Meryl Streep? It is actually a story about an older woman who dates a younger man. I highly recommend you watch it.

That's not a age difference that should be commenting on. She could be concerned about what will happen as SHE ages. She could be concerned that, as the two of you age, you will always look younger than you are and SHE will look older than you. This is about HER looks not yours.

She probably feels awkward and self-conscious. Just keep telling her how much you love her. She'll forget about it soon enough.
