My grandfather didn't, but my grandmother used to spank me with a ping-pong (table tennis) paddle. I deserved it, though; I was a bratty kid.

When I was 7, my grandmother took off her hard-soled shoe and clobbered my over the head with it, repeatedly! This was because she said I woke my baby brother up. My OLDER brother was picking on me, and I kept saying, "Stop it!" Since my older brother was her favorite, she took his side and would just tell me to stop whining. Of course, my brother now seeing that he could pick on me and get away with it and me taking the blame for it, just kept picking on me, and I kept whining. So, if I woke my baby brother up because of my whining it was because I was being abused by my older brother and it was more or less sanctioned by my grandmother. So, for that reason, my grandmother took her hard-soled shoe off and clobbered me over my head repeatedly. Of course, after that I screamed and cried and she threw me in the same room as my crying baby brother. It was the worst pain I had ever felt in my life up to that point!
This was over 30 years ago, but it was enough to be a traumatic experience to this day!

No, but the lectures over the phone (we lived a few states away) were enough to scare me.

No, but they would punish me in other ways. Such as doing extra chores.
