How can I reset drag and drop. When I click and hold the mouse button to drag a window, I get a dotted outline of the window that moves. When I release the mouse button, the window fills the outline.

Right-click on the desktop and select properties. Then click on the appearance tab and click the "Effects" button. Make sure "Show Window contents while dragging" is checked.

What program are you working in? Word?
If Word, click the Help button on the Menu bar
click "Detect and Repair"
You may be asked to insert the Office CD

control-panel-->system-->advanced-->performance press setting
there is some string with check marks find this one
show window contents while dragging
if you check it it will show content during dragging otherwise it just show border
and any time you draged somthing and want to cancel it just press Esc
