I just bought my wedding dress myself and I can tell you, it's really best to go to a store and try the dresses on. You will begin to get a feel for which styles you like and more importantly what you do not like. For example I love how ball gowns look in pictures but when I tried them on I found they made my hips look big so I opted to go with an A-line. You won't know these things until you've tried lots of dresses on.
After that, you also need to decide how much you are willing to pay for your dress. There is no point going to expensive high end designers' websites if you can't afford their dresses, or to David's Bridal if you're looking for a designer dress.
A website like The Knot is good because it has a place you can search multiple designers, prices and in the advanced search you can even choose different elements of the style you are looking for.
Also, I HIGHLY recommend checking ebay before buying in a bridal store. I found my exact dress on an ebay store for $300 less than I paid in the bridal store. Buying from random people might be risky but there are some ebay stores that are authorized retailers and the dress is insured if you pay with paypal. I love my dress but I really wish that I had checked before I bought it.
Hope that helps, and congratulations on your engagement!

Hi Im getting married next year and i was looking online for a dress, but the shop i went into in my town to try a few dresses on told me never to order online for any wedding dress. This is because when you get a wedding dress you need to have it especially made to fit your body. Even though online you put your measurements in to get your size if wont work as all sizes are different. Trust me my wedding dress is a size 14 and i am deffinalty not a size 14 its just the sizes are so small for some companys its hard to tell and once you have got the dress you cant send it back.
I would just get a few ideas of what dresses you like and go into a local wedding shop in your town or near you and try a few on. I know a few websites actually have stockist of there dresses in some shops so you can find out if there is a stockist in your area.
But dont go and get one of the internet it could be a mistake.
There is a few sites below you could try or even get a few ideas from.
Also there are bridal magazines out there that have loads of websites in the back of the books so its worth just to get one.

1) Go to a wedding website such as the knot or wedding channel and write down the names of all the gown designers they have listed.
2) Search through each deisgner's individual website (just find them with your internet search feature.)
3) Save each designer's website that you like to your favorties. Create an account for each one if possible and then save the actual dresses you like.
4) Search within each designer's site for venues that carry the line.
5) Call each venue that carries a designer you like and make an appt to try things on. Allow 3 hours per venue.
6) Print out photos and style #'s of the dresses you like, and bring them to your appt! Not all the dresses will be there, but some will be!

Bridal.. dress ONE. It's more classic. The sleeves on dress 2 you'll be pulling at all night, and dress 3 is gaudy. Bridesmaid: I think you could do all these dresses in the same color. Let your bridesmaids pick what they're most comfortable in, and feel they look best in. If you like them all... then why not let them have a say! Flowergirl: Dress 3. It's the most appropriate for a little girl. The one with an open back is a little too sexy. it's something an adult would wear. Junior: Dress one. the other one won't open

Don't use websites for dress ideas. It's hard to find those same dresses in the shops. I spent months looking at dresses online and then found nothing that compared to them in the shops. And the styles i liked were either not available or didn't look as nice on me as i thought. The best thing to do is just go to the shops and try on all kinds of dresses and see what looks best on you. I ended up buying something completely different from what i was originally planning.

For you dress the best thing you can do is go into a shop and try on absoutly everything you can. My dress is fantastic and was reduced from £1250 to £325, and it was just hanging in the shop never worn. If you go on your local council website they will have a list of all approved wedding venues in your area and all the contact details. Enjoy your big day! Congradulations

buy a couple of wedding books ( you & your wedding or wedding ideas mags ) to give you some ideas of what sort of dress your looking for & than once you find a disigner you like look on the web for the designers website.
if that doesn't help than go & have a look in a wedding shop & ask if they know any websites that you can look at.

Maggie Sottero dresses are wonderful. Mine was called Trina and i'm so sad that i'll never be able to wear it again. I love it.
You should get yourself down the shops though, It's fun trying on wedding dresses.

Go to the shops, you need to see it up close to see if you like it. Plus trying hundreds on is the best bit. take a reliable friend or a family member to go with you. It will be fun. Good Luck and Congrats.
