My 4 year Mini Beagle has been throwing up and has diahrea for about 4 hours, but did finally hold a little water down. She was outside for a while last night, I heard her crying in her kennel, and found she was ill, with above descriptions. She is sleeping, and can bearly hold her head up, and sometimes is shaking. HELP... We live away from vets that respond on weekends....

Antifreeze poisoning occurs in two stages: In the first stage, the ethylene glycol in the antifreeze causes a drunken appearance in the animal within about 30 minutes which may continue for several hours. After passing through stage 1, the animal appears to recover. Stage 2 begins when the dog's liver begins metabolizing the ethylene glycol, changing it into more toxic substances. Within 12 to 36 hours of ingestion, these metabolites have reached such a level that the dog's kidneys stop functioning, and the animal slips into a coma.
The dog could be vomitting to get the substance out of its body, I would take to a vet asap if you think that is what is going on.

Yes, "BAD KITTY" is right. You should immediately take your dog to the vet. Your dog is getting more poison by the minute. Here is some info.:

I hope that your dog is not really poisoned with antifreeze, but with some sort of flue.

Copied from the site below

"Antifreeze poisoning occurs in two stages: In the first stage, the ethylene glycol in the antifreeze causes a drunken appearance in the animal within about 30 minutes which may continue for several hours. Getting the dog to a veterinarian is critical within the first 9-12 hours following ingestion. After that length of time, the liver will have already begun metabolizing the ethylene glycol into substances that cause kidney failure and ultimately death. I have been asked the question by several people-What should be done immediately care for my pet. Should I induce vomiting or give activated charcoal to my pet? These are very short term fixes and not a cure. The faster your pet is treated by a veterinarian the better the chances of recovery. Again, this poison is extremely toxic.

Another source of help is the National Poison Control Center, 800-548-2423. This call will cost $50."

I pray that your dog is fine.

something like this happened to my dog last week. he started acting drunk and was throwing up, sleeping alot and shaking. i took him to the vet and he has something wrong with his liver, no antifreeze poisoning. it could be atifreeze poisoning but might be something else so i would definately get her to the vet but in the meantime try to keep her warm and comfortable. if she does have antifreeze poisoning she would want to drink a lot of water.

If you have any idea at all that it is antifreeze, get her to the vet now. It may already be too late. No matter what it is, I would get her to the vet ASAP. It doesn't take long for them to dehydrate.

if your dog got antifreeze it would act drunk and only get worse from there on because it attacks the nervous system then they die. i lost a dog about 6 yrs ago to the same thing. the stuff you are describing sounds kind of like parvo. just a suggestion.

Dead dog
Stop listening to these want to be vets.
Get off of the computer and bring your dog to the Vet.
Your dog is probably going to die anyway. So for the next dog give him something like (Syrup of Ipecac) to make him bring it up immediately. Then bring the dog to the Vet ASAP.
