He was born on neither. Nobody can tell u definitively when Jesus was born, but it's understood by historians that his birth took place sometime in the spring between 6 BCE, and 4 CE.
Christmas is celebrated on Dec. 25 because it was originally a pagan festival commemorating the winter solstice... many of the rituals of Christmas (the tree for example) were originally pagan rites that were usurped along with the holiday. Easter is similar. It is Historically accurate to say that Jesus died on or around the Jewish festival of Passover. Again, the rituals (bunny, eggs, etc.) were taken from a pagan spring festival around the same time.

The date of Jesus' birth is not given in scripture. Different churches have developed different traditions about when (and how) it is celebrated.
The date of "Easter" varies because it is based on the Jewish calendar, rather than the Gregorian calendar used by Americans and Europeans. The Jewish calendar begins each months on the New Moon. So they have fewer then 365 days a year, and make it up with "leap months", rather than just a day, to get their calendar back in synch with the sun. Easter is always celebrated on the first Sunday that follows the first full moon of spring. That day is always the same on the Jewish calendar, but varies on the Gregorian calendar.

Easter is governed by Passover, which is governed by when the new moon falls after the equinox each spring. The ancients had a slightly different system of calendars and marking time than we do today. We try to make their system fit with ours, because ours is what we understand today.
Rest assured, Jesus and His Father are not offended in the slightest that we don't know the exact date (according to our modern calendar) of Jesus' birth and death and resurrection. If God had wanted us to know these things, we would -- despite the differences in the systems. We observe His death and celebrate His birth and His resurrection as events, not as dates. That's hard for us to wrap our brains around, because we moderns want dates with numbers that agree with our calendars. It's the events that are of primary importance, so it's really those which we celebrate.

Jesus was born in the Fall. Easter falls on different dates as it comes at the time of the Jewish Pesach (Passover), which is determined by a lunar calendar that changes with each year.

His death: At Passover time (remember the story?)
His birth: 33 1/2 years earlier, according to prophecy, which would put it sometime in September, wouldn't it?
