We run top quality virtual reality software inside our heads and we can experience lots of things that arent there - yes, some ignorant, suggestible people who are unaware of human fallibility may believe they've experience the reality of God but as He does not exist... well. What can I say? The Yorkshire ripper heard Jesus telling him to kill women. Would you believe he was hardwired for the truth?

Doubt it severely.
Though it seems to LOVE latching onto something more powerful than itself for protection, even should that protection be completely unfounded. A possible all powerful critter to hook up with seems to do a doosy for those who don't stand on their own.
