NO your not german for christ sake. being born in germany , scotland , france etc. doesnt make you german/scottish or french.
having german/scottish or french parents also doesnt mean you are german/french or scottish.
you would be german if you grew up in its culture and assimilated its history, culture , people, education system , law , beliefs , philosaphy etc. thats what makes you what you are.
do you think you coud go over to germany and hug all your german brothers and sisters and they would accept you as german as the next man NO.
if you are american be american and get over it.

most likely, most names are derived from the job or culture they lived and worked in. you are probably distantly german, and had ancestors that were german.
