No sound coming from speakers?

Question

I have no sound coming from speakers. Thay are plugged in correctly but it says there's no active mixer. Anyone help please? I've been into control panel and also tried loking for driver but i'm stuck! Thanks

have tried what u suggested restfullone but still no joy. Thanks for trying though

I had problems like this and typed in the run tab next to programs DXDIAG it must be in caps,this will bring up your DirectX Diagnostic Tool First check that the box on the bottom left is ticked,then check to see if you have a sound driver forth tab along it will show you what sound driver you have installed,if its blank you will have to download a new driver.I have Realtek AC97 Driver 3.29 WHQL It supports all ALC series Audio chipsets from ALC 101up to ALC 861,If you want this i have added a link that will take you to a website to download free of charge.I have used this site many times for software,and they have there own problem forum.Its up to you if you use this site,as there are many that do the same download sound drivers,or you can type in sound driver software on yahoo search

heh that would be a pretty lame virus more often than anything else it's due to a setting in a 'player' program u have, lord knows why people need real player media player, itunes, and whatever else they download just to play some files but it's not neccesary and it is possible that one program has stolen the default programs sound settings,, this can be from a malicious program however i would check that first. Furthermore it's a good choice to do a scan if u suspect a virus. sound is pretty much free game for a windows PC so yea it's possible,, however more than a virus it's most likely a trojan,, check the programs u've downloaded

Firstly check that the windows audio service is running, firstly go click start and then run and type;

services.msc

and scoll down to "Windows Audio" double click and ensure that it says Automatic in "Startup Type" and click the "Start" button if it is not enabled. This might kick in your audio, if not restart and then try it.

If the service is running then it's basically telling you you don't have a sound card installed.

Firstly check that your motherboard chipset drivers are installed, these should have come from your PC or motherboard manufacture.

Then reinstall all software that came with your soundcard.

make sure your sound hardware listed in Device Manager and Bios if its onboard sound ,keep looking
if all else fails Try System Restore ,if your sound worked before.
