I ask this because I attended Church twice a week and studied the Holy Bible for eleven years from the age of five until I was sixteen when I became an Atheist. As I look back on my life as a Christian, I feel I was an Atheist all the time I attended Church. Even though I was baptized, supposidly born again and saved at the age of five.

Yes many church leaders are really Atheist they are in business like any other business. I wouldn't be surprised if the Pope the Cardinals many high Catholic church leaders were Atheist. and many senior Protestant leaders were Atheist. You know most politicians are Atheist no matter how much they talk about God they are just using God to appease the people. Most of these people are well educated and are very good at reasoning and logic. They know which side their bread is buttered on. Amen BB

I believe a church member can be an non-believer who is searching for Christ but not a leader. A leader of a Christian church must be a Christian otherwise it isn't a Christian church. Being baptized at the age of 5 doesn't make you a Christian unless you actually believe and love Christ. I have never been baptized and I am a christian, baptism is just a symbol of your faith.

No, you can't. Being an Atheist is actively saying you do not beleive in God. Someone who does this is no longer a church member because they have refused to believe i ntheir God, and certainly isn't a leader because i cannot see anyone being led to something the leader himself does not believe.

Personally I don't think you were an Atheist, one becomes an Atheist at the point they decide not to believe. Before then you were Christian but with doubts.

You can associate yourself with any group...doesn't mean you truly are one of them though even though your going through all the motions of it. But I gotta tell ya, IF YOU DID NOTTT believe when you were "baptizes...etc), you were never saved and you were never a Christian. It takes faith, and it's faith that pleases God. Question though....if you are such the atheist, why are you browsing around in the religion section? You'd better get your life right and quit fooling around...you have been taught the truth and you are denying Him..He says when you do that, He'll deny you before the angels and The Father. This is no game dude, PEACE!!!

Yes, I believe it to be the case. You are the so called "used to be" Christians that have given a bad name to Christianity. Wonder why it took you so long to cross over. Plus, you can't get saved when your five. Did your parents make you believe that? That is where it all went wrong.

Anyone can pretend or be a good fake.

I was a Christian for about 16 years before I became an atheist. I wasn't an atheist the entire time... actually, there was a pretty significant leap from Christian to atheist between 16 & 17.

If you haven't accepted Christ as your Savior, you're not born again. The bible says 'many are called, but few are chosen'.

Matthew 20:16 - so the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.

John 3:3 - Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

John 3:5-7 - Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God 6 - That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 - Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

Romans 1:20-22 - For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 - Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginatinos, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 - Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

Its possible many happenings in a life could of forced that person into it but their heart was never there. I'm happy you found what you were looking for. I would think lots of future clergy would skive off if they weren't really sure but then again you could of had a crazy mother.

Yeah, why not? Religion is business, I think someone can pretend fairly to be a christian just because they make a lot of money in the path. It's like politicians... they can't believe all the crap they promise, but they pretend really well.

Most church people are already atheists, meaning they are de facto atheists, meaning when everything is normal and they are not being challenged, they subconsciously recognize that there is no God. In their innermost minds they understand that God is imaginary, and let it go at that.

You can still be religious and be rational, and that's what most of them are. But they can instantly shift into the other mode and declare that their God is real, it all depends on the context.
