Believe it or not, guys like flowers too.

Try getting him something he's been looking for but hasn't been able to find.

Make his fav dessert.

Send over an uplifting cd.

Write him an encouraging letter.

Of course don't do them all but anything that tells him you are thinking of him and that you care would, I'm sure, be appreciated.

You are correct in not wanting to smother him. What is depressing him? If you know, if for instance it's stress over school and you can help with homework or studying for a test then, by all means, do that. If it's an unspecified cause, you might encourage him to see the school counselor or an adult that can help.

Good luck, honey. He's a lucky guy.

A man does not usually look to his woman to fix his problems, especially one who isolates like yours may be doing. Good for you to have a sense of not smothering. Offering a kind ear, checking on him as appropropriate is great. If you see this goes on, ask him "is there anything I can do to help" and he will say if he thinks so. If you are really concerned, find a tactful way to suggest that he need not deal with difficulties alone - a professional might help.

Men are raised in today's society to not let emotion show. Most men feel that if they do it makes them look weak. The best thing to do is let him know that you care and that you will always be there for him if he needs you or just wants to talk. Maybe suggest doing something together that he really likes, or taking a nice stroll. Just give him time..He'll come around eventually.
If the issue does not improve in a few weeks, try talking to someone else. Depression is treatable. Maybe he just can't ask for help on his own.
I wish you the best!

Just tell your boyfriend that you love him dearly. Boost his self esteem up without smothering him. Just let him know that you are here for him if he needs a shoulder to lay on.

You need to talk to him and find out the root of the matter. He needs to talk to his family, or someone like his guidance counselor (or dean at college), or even a priest. If it's serious, he needs to seek professional help before he hurts himself. What you can do is be there for him. And when he's ready to talk to you, you'll help him out.

just tell him in advance: I'm going to check in with you 2x a day, in the morning and in the evening, and if you want to talk, that's great, but if not, that's okay too. I'm just calling you so that you know how much I care about you.

Whenever my boyfriend is upset, I just talk to him and tell him that everything will be okay. Maybe go over to his house and check up on him, see if he needs anything. Other than just talk to him, it could help him alot and it'll show just how much you care about him.

Just to to find out what's wrong. And be really nice to him, and happy when your around him. And just remind him how much you care about him. But don't do it so much that he gets annoyed or creeped out.
