I'm looking to find out how much it costs for a regular dentist visit (cleaining, maybe x-rays) costs for an adult and a child in the Palo Alto, CA area. Thanks!

I would say the cost would be between $90 and $150 for a set of 6 to 10 xray films, cleaning, and polishing. In the Northern CA region of where I am (outside the Bay Area) the average is cost is approx. $120 for xrays and a cleaning - at least that is the avg. customary cost charged if one has insurance. A child (depending on their age) would be a bit less, since a child's cleaning is not as intensive as an adults.

However, please be aware that the cost I am providing is the cost charged to me (3 different dentists in 2006) based on my insurance rates.

In other words, the first dentist I visited charged $125 for full services. My insurance paid $95 dollars of the cost and I made up the difference, I paid $30. The dentist was not a provider with my health plan.

Then the second dentist I visited was a provider with my health plan and charged me $95, so I did not have an out of pocket expense.

However, let's say I did not have insurance. It's possible each dentist had different rates (a higher rate) for uninsured patients. This is not unusual.

You can call some of the offices in your area and they will quote prices.

Making money is nothing anyone can predict. The market is softening but land space is at a premium in the peninsula. If you try E Palo Alto, go for the west side of 101 near Menlo Park and Palo Alto. It is the area most likely to get gentrified.
