Wow... that si rally really cool...

1. providing kennels stacked on one side for the occassional sick cat is a good idea.

2. Lots of kitty toys

3. Lots of places to perch on

4. Put up shelvings or planks of wood around the walls to create a catwalk that goes around the whole room. Steps or ledges for the cats to climb up to it. Not only will this provide great perching places for the cats (they love to perch up high), it will also INCREASE the area of the room in terms of walking, climbing and running space for the cats. Think VERTICAL too, not just horizontal! There are websites that can give you ideas on how to do this.

5. Add fun tunnels floor level and upper level.

6. Scratching posts.

7. Two cat trees.

8. Hideouts made of cardboard boxes

9. A comfy chair and small table for the cats' human guests.

The first thing you have to do is kitty proof the room. Make sure there aren't any places or holes they can get into and get stuck or lost. You need to do the same as when you child proof a place. Especially if you have kittens.

Make a couple of beds for them. They often don't like to be confined to a box (unless they are very young for their own protection) so put some blankets, pillows or towels in various corners of the room, under a couch or bed to let them choose. It's best to get litter boxes with hoods so they can do what they have to do privately.

If you really want to go all out, take a look at this picture for some ideas.

I tried to get into their website to forward to you but it is under construction. You may want to try it later it is

Its really worth the time to look through it. What ingenious people they are.

Of course most of us can't do what they have done but I would recommend that you have a few places the cats can get up high (a stable table, high cat trees, bookshelf) they feel more secure for some reason when they are up high. I would keep a radio going on some nice music to help calm them. Always leave a bowl of fresh water and dry food for them. A scratching post is also important

Good luck and bless you for doing this. You have earned a special seat upstairs. I fostered kittens for awhile and had to give up. I promised to find them all good homes and I did. MINE!!!! I couldn't part with them when they were ready to be adopted out. At one point I ended up with 8 cats and decided I better give up fostering.

You might want to put carpetting onto the molding for them to scratch and stretch and mark their scent (this is what scratching does, it marks their scent). Getting scratching posts is a good idea, but you can't always control where they will want to scratch and this gives them more options.

I'd get or make the towers ("kitty condos") that they sell for cats, but I'd get a few of them and maybe have some tubes or planks that would connect them. This way they could walk from one kitty condo to another.

Maybe hang some toys from the ceilings on bungee cords or other elastic cords. Gives them plenty to play with.

You may also want to make sure there is a window they can sit near. They love that.

Fresh catnip and you'll need at least one litterbox for every one or two cats. So you may not want to bring too many home to foster as this will take up a lot of space.

Please be careful being a foster mom. I was a foster parent for the SPCA and found them to be very uncooperative when I tried to return a cat (3 week stay period was at an end). When I tried to return the cat on three different occasions (after each time being bullied) I was told that if I returned the cat that it would be put down because it was deemed unadoptable. Talk about being held hostage. I will never do that act of kindness again.

Oh how much fun is that you should get some of those cat tress from like pet smart and then find somone to build something like 2-2.5 feet from ceiling that is like a shelf you can cover it with carpet make sure it runs past the window so they can sprawl out in the sun when i had my cat we actually had a system of the shelfs that she could even go from room to room through a hole in the wall that way she had a place and a world that was al hers we also hung things from the bottoms of the cat trees like bells and that make it a vert funtional room for them also by making sure there are lots of places they can play in like have them built out of wood and cover them in carpet this will protect your furniture and give them a space all their own.

that is soo cool!

1. put lots of those cat scratching poles all over. they love those, and will tear up those instead of the rooms.

2. have lots of beds, blankets, pillows, etc for them to sleep on. cats will most likely sleep all together in a big pile for comfort and protection.

3. you should have one or two large cages for ill or pregnant cats. i dont recommend a totally enclosed like with a roof on it, because then the cat will feel left out, or claustrophobic. use like a wire cage just around a corner of the room so they cant climb out.

have fun!

if i were making a room i would hire someone to build a big but not big jungle gym for them and make it out of carpet so they can scratch it ...... and then they can go inside it too with some litter boxes and you should put like fake vines up on the wall and have it painted like jungle and the carpet thats on the jungle gym could have cat nip on it ..... then other ideas if want more ... but my ideas are for if you want to foster them and keep on fostering not just one time .... and if you do that room you could foster them and if you wanted get your own cats after that and all that stuff.......

you can make many other designs except jungle but i said jungle cause its more cats and like lion king i could picture a cat growning up with lion king and maybe you could take pics of the cats and blow them up and put them on the was or something ....

just seggesting stuff .... bye

why not move one of those kids sandboxes in and make it a giant litter box, you know the kind with a hood that is square. then you could cover the poles on the side with carpet for a scratching post area.
Plenty of space for them to lay in the sun. remember to keep a toy box, that they can access, maybe a basket.
Trying to think ot more but drawing a blank

hi there! What a sensible decision! That sounds large you're doing that for unfavorable little kitties!!! nicely i grow to be questioning you would favor to position in scratch posts for them to artwork their claws down on fairly than using your furnishings or scratching up their beds. Yeah, and beds! you'll get 2 floor cat beds one on properly of the different which seem as if large relaxing haha they are astounding and comfortable interior for the kittens. be certain to placed a rug or carpets down on the floor for kittens to snuggle up on, also you likely do not favor scratch marks on the floor. yet observe that once doing this you would get the unusual bit or urine in it, in which you would ought to sparkling that up!
