Would anyone be willing to go to war and die for their country if they knew that this was the only life they would get?

Thanks- y'all never let me down! I just got into an argument with a co-worker about that, and I wanted her to see that YES we, too have the same ability to sacrifice as the religious folks do- afterlife or no!

Yes. There are plenty of "atheists in foxholes" right now.

Would theists be willing to risk their lives for a noble cause if they DIDN'T have Heaven waiting just in case they didn't make it?

Good question. One thing is for sure, we would have less cover when fighting for something. No one could claim it was god's will or to rid the world of non-believers. We could just say, "they are weak but rich", "get them!".

We could also transfer billions of dollars into genuine good causes (as opposed to marketing, controls and cash-for-prayers).

I also wonder what would happen if people decided to make the best out of this life, rather than live on the sidelines and take out credit for a next life.

Many people might be willing to go to war and die for their country, but not all of them understand what that means

Considering most wars in history were fought over religion.. would there be more wars in the future to have to worry about this?

Also, You don't think that all soldiers at war at the moment are religious, do you?

Yea probably. There wouldnt probably be a war to fight though if everone were allowed free will in there thought process. That is eliminated when there is religion.

Yes and what the hell kind of justification is that for religion. We need religion so we can trick people into dying in war.

Yes, they would. The human ability for intelligence is matched only by it's ability for stupidity.

Most likely no. But that means no war for anyone, so there would be no need.

It would be a better world, that's for sure. I don't think there were many wars.
